In the Lady's Shadow 2.0 (Image Thread)
I thought I'd start a separate thread for posting images, since I don't know what kind of browsers you guys use, or your resolution or whatever, and don't want to screw up your windows with over-sized pictures in the main thread. First, some pictures of Sigil. Looking in from outside: And one from inside, featuring the Lady of Pain. This isn't quite how I envision it (or her), but it's still a nice alternative perspective: This one is working from the assumption that the city is more like the inside of a car tire than along the inner band of a ring. My take is that it is somewhere between the two - the curvature of this image is way, way more dramatic than my version of Sigil: Basic lay-out of the Inner Planes (that's Elemental Planes, for you clueless berks): And finally, some random Sigilians. Should give you a sense of the dress code:

Re: In the Lady's Shadow 2.0 (Image Thread)
For those who haven't seen it (and you might well not have as it's down pretty far on Raesene's character sheet), here's the shield Raesene's got with him: Proper blazonry is a bit tough to read and write, and it depends a lot on the era, but the best I've come up with for this is " Or, in pale a label gules and lion rampant sable, on a chief gules two falcons or." The lion is the usual symbol of courage and ferocity; the falcon's meaning is best translated as "One who does not rest until his objective is achieved". The label - the geometric bit in the center - is actually a symbol of precedence, and indicates that Raesene is the first-born son of his father. (To be clear, this isn't an inherited piece of heraldry - Raesene commissioned his own at some point.) I'm posting this here for four reasons: (a) I'm kind of proud of it; (b) to let Devin Parker know it and its meanings, as a proper herald would; (c) so that the other players have a plain English explanation of it if anyone asks about it in-character; and (d) to give the other players a visual color cue for how Raesene is dressed, as he tends towards these colors in his surcoat (when armored) and in his other clothes.

Splendid! Worth also mentioning that: Or = gold Gules = red Sable = black

Lord Foul wrote: Splendid! Worth also mentioning that: Or = gold Gules = red Sable = black Indeed. Actually the best heraldry site I've found, in terms of listing and explaining the meanings of things, is this one. They describe or (gold) as meaning "generosity or elevation of the mind" (only the former, in Raesene's case); gules (red) for military strength; and sable (black) for constancy. Oh! The other important part. The 'chief', the differently-colored part at the top, isn't pure decoration -- it's awarded to a knight by their lord to mark some impressive accomplishment, victory, etc. I haven't invented that accomplishment exactly yet -- it's not terribly important going forward. But as usual there's nothing on these blazons without meaning.
