Mostly because of the lack of face-to-face interaction, as well as the fact that it takes months to accomplish what a normal gaming group can achieve in a single play session.

Agreed, although intimidating isn't the word I'd use. However, I don't have a lot of time to devote to gaming of late, so I've been considering the pbp angle.
