 Re: Random Forum Thoughts.
Determining which books are going into storage and which aren't is a strangely depressing task.

 Re: Random Forum Thoughts.
Soylent Green is one of those movies that everyone gets spoiled for before they actually get to see it.
Like King Kong. Hes a monkey, he climbs a building, he died. Everyone knows that.
Star Wars, Darth Vader is Lukes father.
Soylent Green is people.

It annoys the hell out of me when I see a lovingly-rendered picture of three gears all meshing together. Do people just not get that any closed geartrain with an odd number of gears is locked solid and can't turn? To clarify, it's shit like this that bugs me.

And no, I'm not being sarcastic here. I've seen pictures like that and just never bothered to think about them because they were all in the context of being representative of stuff -- like on computer icons or pics in presentations. But now that you point it out, that is a really stupid setup.

There was quite a fuss about it when Britain first introduced a two pound coin. The two big fusses were that 1) you could fairly easily pop the central part out, it being one of those fancy jobs made of a ring of one metal wrapped round a slug of another metal and 2) the design was supposed to symbolise Britain's industrial heritage and general awesomeness as the place where things like steam engines really got started... and the bit that was supposed to do that was a ring of gears around the edge of one face, containing nineteen gears.
