 Re: Olympics!
I love you Banksy. I need to go watch Exit Through The gift Shop again. And yes, The United States of America's Soccer team that is made up entirely of females beat the Soccer Team of French Females by two goals, despite being down by two. In many tournament sporting events, there are pools before the championships, in which every team plays the other teams in that pool in order to get an estimation of how good a team is. Teams that win the most in the pools often get to go to the final tournament, often with a high "seed", which is a guess at which teams are likely to win overall. Often high seeds are matched up against low seeds so that the first and second seeds (theoretically the best two teams) don't end up playing each other until the end, in order to provide the most drama. This can also lead to major upsets when say, seed 15 beats seed 1, knocking the "best" team to make it out of pools out of the tournament right away. I hope that's clear! Trust me, it is exactly that confusing trying to calculate your seed position if you're in, say, a fencing or chess tournament :p

 Re: Olympics!
All right, this may seem like a foolish question, but...
...why did McCartney sing Hey Jude to close out the opening ceremonies? There's more appropriate choices in his catalog than the song he wrote to ease the pain of sibling rivalry for a young Julian Lennon. All You Need Is Love springs to mind, as do Come Together, Let It Be, Real Love, hell even Hope of Deliverance would have been better.

No no, having McCartney perform during the ceremony made sense, he's one of Britain's national treasures, the songs he wrote during his time in The Beatles influenced multiple generations of musicians, et cetera. I'm saying the song choice struck me as very strange... then again, this was a ceremony that depicted a 100 foot tall Lord Voldemort being scared off by the appearance of forty Mary Poppinses.

 Re: Olympics!
Hey Jude is one of the most iconic of Beatles numbers, and most importantly it has that singalong chorus at the end that everyone can join in whatever their language. Also, the Queen parachuting from a helicopter with James Bond. How cool was that?

The airdropped royalty while the James Bond theme played was crazy awesome. I also loved Rowan Atkinson's bit as the bored synth player in the performance of Chariots of Fire.
