Heroes are great, but lets not criticize the victims who were not heroic.

When you've got the answer to a question that has stumped both philosophers and physicists from Aristotle to Hawking, it's worth considering the possibility that you don't fully understand the question. Edit: I didn't mean for that to sound as pompous as it did. I don't fully understand the question either.

 Re: Colorado Shooting
The answer is quite simple.
We have free will, but our ability to use our will is limited by the physics of the universe in which we reside.

Edit: I didn't mean for that to sound as pompous as it did. I don't fully understand the question either. I consider the "question" hollow. Like "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" or "what is the meaning of purple?" Free Will is meaningless/an illusion. It is the ultimate deepity It's a castle in the sky. The neuroscience is fairly clear. We do not have free will in any non-illusory sense. But, as Dan Dennett said, in practical terms, “All the varieties of free will worth having, we have,” -curse you philosophy degree-

Well, in the sense that it only exists as an illusion, you could take it that way. But in the sense that everything of value about the concept comes as part of the illusion you can interpret it that no value has been lost.

So he is saying that being under the delusion that you have free will is just as good as actually having free will?

"Actually having free will" is a hard thing to pin a meaning on. What does it mean? What would be involved? How would you show that it was even possible? But let's not derail the thread.

 Re: Colorado Shooting
with the time I've spent in a corrections facility (volunteer work ) I've learned that people like this guy do not do well in prison, going in for an act of cowardice like that. does Colorado have a death penalty? he might prefer the death penalty over how the other prisoners will treat him.
