Post Make Zeike's Tough Life Choices For Him
I'm mostly kidding on that part, but I wouldn't mind some feedback on a question that has been presented to me.

The possibility has been set before me of potentially moving from Indianapolis to Minneapolis/St Paul. In Indy, I have a job, an apartment, and some good friends that I don't see too terribly often (sadly), but no real strong connections, aside from the inertia of living there for about 20 years. In St Paul, I have a wonderful girlfriend I love dearly, and a good bunch of new great friends, all of whom are more than willing to help me get settled in, if I decide to make the move. I've always thought the Twin Cities would be an awesome place to live, long before I had any personal connections there.

So, tell me, oh so unbiased Booter community, what you think I should do. This is not going to be my final decision, but it may influence said decision, if the results are significantly favored in one direction or another.

Thanks for your time!
Love you all!

Obvious first question: Is there a job waiting for you in St. Paul? Will you like that job?

This. Finding a potential job should be a priority well before actually moving somewhere, IMO.

Considering all the connections he has in MN, though, it shouldn't be too hard to visit there and interview/fill out applications.

I do not have a job lined up... yet, but if I decide to move, I would not do so until I had one waiting for me (or at very least, several very strong leads). And, yes, I have several people in St Paul more than willing to help with the search.

I advise... relax, there's no hurry. Enjoy what you have, in both places, but don't rush headlong into burning bridges on an impulse. How long have you two been together? At the moment it is lovely, and it may very well turn into something even deeper, but, you know, shit happens. Sometimes it just doesn't work out the way everyone hopes. Give it time. Look for a job in the other place if that is where your heart leads you. But get that job first, before you chuck in the one you have.

I don't know what you do for a living, but if all else fails, it's usually pretty easy to find work through a temp agency.

Yeah, LF has a good point here.

I'm enthusiastic about the idea of moving simply because in my own case, I'm really glad that I moved.

Does the business you work for have a location in the Twin Cities? You might be making things harder than they need to be. Just put in for a transfer. Here's the trick, and it takes finesse to pull it off right. Find your replacement in Indy. That way, you're not burning a bridge.
