I think this was in another thread as well. I'm a little skeptical. When I go out, I want to escape a feeling of geekness, not wallow in it. Might go over big in San Fran or Silicon Valley, though.

I don't think 8-bit bar will be sports focused. They seem to want to focus on gaming and geek culture.

No, they want to go to a bar where there'll be like minded people with shared interests.

My impression is that this will be like that, but better. Because the shared interests are actually interesting!

In theory, sure, maybe it'll be like that. I primarily go to sports bars to watch games, and socialize second. I think their projection of 11 people/hour on weekdays is optimistic, given that a lot of geeks are shy or very private. Geeks like the idea of a geek bar, but will they actually become regulars? I'll need to see that to believe it, in an area where geek culture isn't prized.

Even if it doesn't happen, it's a wonderful idea.
