Post RPG Toolkit poll
We're proud to announce a partnership between Fear the Boot and Mindtakerr on his RPG Toolkit mobile application. For anyone not familiar with it, it's an iPhone app meant to enhance your game. A production version has already been released, and I'm pleased to say a lot of new features, a free "lite"version, and a cosmetic facelift (curtisy of Keith Curtis) are in the works as I write this. Once some of those are in place, we'll be doing a much larger publicity push.

We believe this app is a great tool for gamers, and by bringing it into our brand family through a sponsorship arrangement, it gives us exposure to folks that may not even know RPG podcasts exist. And for anyone that's wondering, no, we're not getting a cut of the app sales. We really do just plain believe in the product and the direction it's headed.

Here's where you can help prior to its major debut! Everyone involved wants to make sure we're building the app that you want to use. To that end, Mindtakerr has put together a very short poll, and we'd appreciate it if anyone interested in RPG apps for their mobile phone would wander over and click a few things. And feel free to take this poll regardless of what phone you actually own! It's only on the iPhone now, but the app may eventually find its way to other platforms.

Curtisy. I crack myself up.

Remember: This app works for your iPod Touch as well as the iPhone :) The app itself currently does not require an internet connection to work and I love it and use it on my iPod Touch. So even if you dont have an iPhone or something similar.. If you have the iPod Touch then you should probably take the poll too.

I have not tried the app, but did take the survey. There were questions that allowed for unfamiliarity with the app... my one criticism is that those questions followed questions that did assume familiarity with the app, which made me question the validity of my taking the survey at first.

Once there is a free version available, I'll be giving it a try. (Both as a matter of principle and to avoid buying something I later regret, I won't try an app unless there is a free version available to test drive first.)

Thanks for being one of my biggest champions, Maniah! I really appreciate all that you have said in support of the app. Also, web syncing was totally her idea :)

Excellent question. Whenever the good folks at Apple approve version 1.2, you will be able to sync to your iPod using Wifi. However, just in case it takes a long time for Apple to approve it, I would suggest not putting anything vitally important on there... yet. I'm just slightly afraid that it may take longer to approve since it uses internet access now. So, I'll leave that up to you.

The free version is almost finished, and once it is, I'll be posting it to Apple for review. Basically, it'll be similar to the paid version except that it won't be able to sync the web, and there will be a limit on the number of characters, attributes, notes, and such that you can store. The die roller and card drawer will be fully functional.

Dude, it's two bucks. For less than the cost of a pint, I'll support a fellow Booter. Besides, the RPG Toolkit app is a good concept that will soon have some spiffy enhancements.

btw, has anyone tried the DM Toolkit? It's priced at $13, so I'm not going to buy it just to see how it compares to RPG Toolkit.

It's really funny because when I had the idea for the RPG Toolkit, there was nothing like it on the app store. Then, as my app was being reviewed, DM Toolkit got released. The timing on it is just crazy. But yeah, I don't have $13, either :) From what I could tell in screenshots, it looked like it was somewhat D&D-specific.

Dude, it's thirteen bucks. For less than the cost of a six pack, I'll not be supporting a random asshole on the internet. Besides, the DM Toolkit is a questionable concept that might never see another upgrade.

Sorry, sorry! I could not resist!
