Interesting and welcome, but not expected

2) Would you care if a prize had been used?
Not at all.

3) Does prize support have any impact on whether you run a game or not?
No.

4) When should prize support be given out?
As it was done, at the end, works well.

5) How should prize support be given out?
Randomly is good, but I suggest "earlier random" for those who ran three or more games -- that's a huge commitment

6) Would changing it to attendance prizes be better? (from a selfish standpoint this is something that could be added to the advertisements)
As someone who has been on other committees: It would be an extra chore for somebody, and people are already coming because they want to: attendance is a reward in itself. I'm not against the idea.

Wayne,

The fact that I got a prize at all had me a bit awestruck to begin with. I definitely do not need any prize, save for the happy faces of my players.

If you do away with the prize support you will hear no wake from me.

But I will thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me have what I did have! It's sitting proudly on my shelf even now.

:)

  • 4) When should prize support be given out?

  • 7) Any other thoughts or comments on the subject?

1. Very. I love getting stuff!
2. Not at all. Used is cool as long as I has been gently so.
3. Honestly? It tipped me over the edge to run a second game. In prior years, prize support was awarded at the end of each game session, so two shots at the table, eh?
4. If support exists for each GM to get a crack at the table for each game run, I'd recommend at the close of each session. If not, see #5...
5. At the closing ceremony. Cracks at prize support should be awarded based first on number of games run (e.g. Guys who run 6 games go first, 5 games, etc.)
6. No.
7. At other cons, GMs charge a table fee - which I find a bit sleazy. I love the prize support because it demonstrates the appreciation the community has for the GMs. I love the GM prize support.

While eliminating the Prize support wouldn't prevent me from running at future cons, it's a really pleasant bonus. It's a really powerful incentive.

I saw that voucher for the digital package and was seriously concsidering it.

If it needs to go, it needs to go, and I wouldn't shed any tears over it. You could make it a part of the tiered atendee package.

Gotta say, I wanted the Evil Hat digital package HARD!

1) How important is GM Prize Support to you?
I didn't even know it existed before you guys starting taking up the badges of the various GMs for the prize support drawing.

2) Would you care if a prize had been used?
Not at all.

3) Does prize support have any impact on whether you run a game or not?
As stated above, I didn't even know it existed so no. It had no impact on my running a game.

4) When should prize support be given out?
I thought the timing at this con was fine.

5) How should prize support be given out?
See above response. Adjust it accordingly.

6) Would changing it to attendance prizes be better? (from a selfish standpoint this is something that could be added to the advertisements)
I'll side with others who have spoken up before me and say no.

7) Any other thoughts or comments on the subject?
I thought it was cool. And I ended up grabbing an Enterprise keychain for my mom that she loves. She actually squealed over it... and immediately put it on her keys. (My mom's a pretty hardcore Trekkie, haha).

And as I already told Dan (and I believe he passed it along to you), Standout Tees is willing to donate a gift certificate or something similar to next years GM Prize Support if it's going to happen.

1) I was honestly shocked that there was prize support. I really liked the idea!

2) I wouldn't mind. It just reinforces the idea that this community is awesome!

3) Nope. Didn't then, doesn't now.

4)I liked when we did it, between slots 4 and 5.

5)I believe it should be the more games you run, you get to jump ahead of the line. Someone who could have ran 6 games may have been last pulled. I don't think it should be that way.

6)Don't do it.

7) The GM support was pretty good. I will say that I was slightly disappointed with the selection as I was one of the last ones pulled. I didn't even get something RPG related, I got a Star Trek Key chain. While still appreciated, again, a bit disappointed. But, that's just purely my thoughts on it.

1. It ran through my head somewhat, but really I just wanted the GM dice that were given out last year(d'oh). I think I agree that a custom GM badge or something like that would mean more to me than a random prize that costs more. It's some kind of nerd pride/boasting thing.
2. As long as it was still in good shape I wouldn't mind.
3. I'd have to say probably not, but maybe subconsciously it affected my decision.
4. As long as the time is communicated ahead of time I don't know if it matters. I found out as I was cleaning up my slot 4 game and chatting with my players (always a good time to find out what worked and what didn't).
5. I think a system that rewards those who run more games seems fair, but beyond that I don't have a strong opinion.
6. ?
7. So wait, there was digital vouchers? Also could the prize table be moved far enough away from the wall so that people could get on both sides of the table? This would help reduce bottlenecking.

Post Re: How important is GM prize support to you?
Thank you all for the feedback. You've helped me cement a few ideas I had for next year. Prize support is one way that we can thank everyone who runs games. There would be no con without you.

Since the custom dice were brought up so often I want to remind everyone that it was a listener who donated them last year. We are incredibly grateful for that and I'm sure that he is probably getting a kick out of all the praise for those GM dice. Pat thought that this was such a good idea that he wanted to make Fear the Boot dice to not just go with the con dice from last year, but to be given out outside the con as well. I'm glad that everyone loved the GM dice from FTC3, but we don't deserve any of the credit for them.

With growth I do think we will eventually outgrow the idea of everyone getting something from the table just as we unfortunately outgrew a prize per game this year. For now though we will start the prize support process earlier next year and continue to expand who we reach out to. We will be grateful to anyone that wants to donate to the prize support cause when we do start it(right after Gencon). We also will find a way to make sure that people running multiple games get recognition and first crack at the table. Dan is making a change to the Conplanner reports we can run that will help me with prize support handout next year.

So thanks again for the feedback and keep it coming if anyone has any more ideas. Prize support may go away someday or be forced to shirt, but it won't be next year.

No GM dice this year. Everyone got the green ones.
On another note, I have a brown GM dice from last year that I want to trade for a gray players dice. Any takers? Gotta catch 'em all ;)
