Question for y'all. In one of the episodes(I forget which), Dan made the comment that friends don't let friends carry Glocks, or something to that effect.

Why?

There's two opinions on Glocks: they are the best hand gun ever and then the reverse. From what I hear, it's mainly just personal preference with the grip and a few other things

Also, emacs is superior to vi, Mac is better than Windows, Star Trek is better than Star Wars, and TNG is better than the original series.

Glocks are good guns. Most firearms put out by reputable manufacturers are good guns too. Everyone puts out a dud or two though.

Glocks however are some of the most ubiquitous handguns on the planet because lots of police departments use them and lots of private citizens believe they are of higher quality than other firearms. Glock has Fanboys and Haters. Fanboys believe the Glock is the penultimate in personal firearms (think of them like Mac Fanboys.) The Haters hate on them because the Glock Fanboys won't shut up about how good they think the guns are (think of them as Windows Fanboys).

Unlike in the Mac vs. Windows debate though, the sides and sizes are swapped. There are more Glock Fanboys than not and they can actually prove the reliability of the gun. Just look up reliability tests on Glocks on google and you'll see tons of tests in their favor, by fanboys and those who aren't. Glock haters, however, all have that cousin's friend's uncle's third nephew twice removed, that have had a Glock explode and kill everyone in a 100 mile radius. The thing is, Fanboys have proof and most Haters only have lots of twice passed on hearsay on their behalf.

The thing is though Glock's aren't perfect but they're a damn fine gun otherwise. Bad things can happen with them which are truly mechanical errors, but more likely than not they all come down to operator error. Firearms are like any machine, they only work as good as the person using them. However, even with the release of their current Generation 4 models, Glock has been sitting still and not innovating much in the "polymer wonder" category of pistols. So now lots of other pistol manufacturers have caught up in use and reliability in their polymer pistols. So that brings us back to the first paragraph.

TL;DR Glocks are good guns. So are most other guns in the same category. There are Fanboys and Haters on both sides of the Glock reliability argument.

Kinda, close, maybe :problem:

I am neither a hater or a fanboy for Glocks (or 1911's for that matter) but the haters DO have a very real point. the second and third generation Glocks cambered in .40 S&W really did explode seemingly at random, very few people were hurt but a lot of guns went Kaboom it was however determined to be the fault of both the cartridge (mostly reloaded rounds) and the large unsupported area around the casing on the gun. It's not a problem on newer Glocks but it's very hard to rebuild the reputation of a bad gun.

There are people who dislike the lack of a traditional safety catch on Glocks. There are also people who dislike the grip angle. It's mostly personal preference, though.

Glocks will stand up to a LOT of abuse and neglect, though. And, as GothiUllr mentioned, some DID have a design flaw which could interact with out-of-spec ammunition to cause case failure - which makes a loud kaboom noise and does significant amounts of Bad Stuff to the gun. It was because of a trade-off, though; it was a design decision to make feeding more reliable that led to the design that allowed that case failure.

I may be misremembering and mixing with another incident, but wasn't he talking about guns in a video game at the time? Like, he was joking about how, with the handgun option for the character, you could shoot another player time and time again without killing them, and the handgun happened to be a glock. Like I said, I may have it entirely wrong.

PM him.

and let us know what he said, if he's cool with that

I asked him after that episode. It was 218 according to the PM. The short of it is, he thinks their too heavy and he limp-wrists them. (Okay, I might be paraphrasing that second one.)
