What Should I Run At Fear the Con?
Thanks to ZeikeCopperEyes' kindness, I now have lodgings for Fear the Con, so I must attend, lest Maniah sic her forces of darkness upon me.
There is darkness hidden under that sweetness and light, I assure you.
Although I've attended local cons for years and years, Fear the Con will have the most eclectic variety of games I've ever seen. I really would like to run something, just to see if I can hold my own and entertain folks at a con with such concentrated gaming awesome.
For the last few conventions, FATE has been my go to system, Dresden of late, with Spirit of the Century before that. However, it looks as though there's plenty of Dresden on the schedule right now.
So, rather than simply rack my brain and come up with a scenario that people might not find interesting, I thought I'd just ask the forum. What should I run?
Possibilities.
1. Dogs in the Vineyard. This game might be long in the tooth, but I still love it. Intense, vicious bits of roleplaying that tend to end in blood and tears. I've run Dogs at the cons in the past with good results. I'd probably bring pregens and offer to let players make their own characters if they wish.
2. Apocalypse World. The Vincent Baker love continues. I've recently bought and read Apocalypse World, and am looking forward to giving it a spin. The trick is, I'm not sure how well Apocalypse World does Con play. Chargen is a breeze, and an important part of the game. I'm good at GMing on the fly, but this game really requires players to drive the game, and it would flounder with players who don't work to make moves.
3. Savage Worlds. Necessary Evil. In a more traditional and silly vein, The Toymaker has recently had a heart attack, leaving behind an arsenal of self-aware robotic toys to take up his struggle against the alien invaders. PCs would be weaponized toys, including a savage teddy bear, a robotic unicorn, and a company of army men.
4. Dresden Files. Despite the other games already running, I could break out Scooby Doo, Dresden Style. Jenkies!
5. Savage Worlds. Witcher, Mud and Blood. Based on the same sort of grim, ugly, Eastern European fantasy found in the Witcher series of video games and novels, a group of mistrusted misfits are brought together by the promise of gold and glory... mostly gold.
So there you are. Five potential games, of which I'd be willing to run 1 or maybe 2. The question then becomes, what would you kind folks like to see?

Re: What Should I Run At Fear the Con?
Hmm... As cool as I find the toymaker thing, I really like to check out games I haven't played before, so my vote lands on Dogs or, depending on how much foreknowledge of the game is required to play it decently, Apocalypse world.
I've heard a lot about dogs, and it sounds pretty interesting. I've heard ... weird things about Apocalypse World, and I'm always down for weird.
So, that's my two cents. Also, Slot three or five! Three or five!

I would be interested in hearing more about this. My wife hasn't really decided if she is going or not this year, but something like that could be a deciding factor. She is a huge fan of Dresden and Scooby Doo.

Re: What Should I Run At Fear the Con?
When I first started working on Dresden Scooby Doo, I was leaning toward a very stylized, Dresdenized version. Velma as a Thaumaturgist, Daphne as a White Court Virgin, etc. But really, I think it works better if you take the cartoon's premise and play it straight.
I'd basically come with two setups, based on how the table wanted to roll.
Setup 1: Pretty much a straight emulation of the cartoon with no attempt to update or redesign the characters.
Setup 2: The Scooby Gang are a group of college going Ghost Hunters with their own television show who investigate hauntings. Yes, Scooby is still a curiously intelligent Great Dane in this version.
The plot outline would be pretty similar in both setups with plenty of opportunity for investigation, odd characters, chances to split up, and possibly design peculiar, Rube Goldbergesque traps for the villains that end up trapping protagonists.

While I likely won't be playing, since my schedule's more or less already booked, I'd definitely love to hear how you manage Dresden Scooby Doo.
In years past, Martian Bob has infamously shared his renditions of Scooby in a Cthulean setting, so I'd love to be able to contrast the two radically different takes on a classic cartoon franchise.

Lord, I can barely recall the last time I was in a Jesse game. Depending on what slot you use, I may have to reconsider my schedule so far.

I play with him weekly and I would still drop a game to play with him at the con if it was in the Second or 5th slot. Jesse runs some damn fine games.
