Post Dave Trampier's Wormy
Not "Dave Trampier IS Wormy" but "Wormy", by Dave Trampier.

This was a comic strip in the old Dragon magazine back in the late 70s and early 80s. For those who never read it, the title character was a cigar-chomping, pool-playing, wargaming dragon. He chummed around with assorted giants, ogres, trolls, and so forth and occasionally got pestered by adventurers like the wizard who tried to rob Wormy's hoard.

The strip was clever, funny, exciting, and artfully rendered; it gave me all sorts of ideas for dungeons and adventures when I was young. Dave Trampier himself did all the best artwork for the original AD&D books (remember "Emirikol the Chaotic" riding his horse thru town and blasting guards with magic missiles? That was Trampier's.)

Anyway, I recently came across a "Wormy Archive" here:
http://www.angelfire.com/wa2/haroog/archive/Archive.htm

Sadly, it is damaged somehow; the last half of the pages don't load.

If you've read Wormy before you'll love the stroll down memory lane. If you haven't, then what a lucky bastard you are to have that still in front of you. And if anyone knows where to find a complete archive, I'd appreciate the info.

Enjoy!

Dave Trampier's real life story is an odd one:

Believe it or not, he used to be the "good" D&D artist.

:o I hadn't realized he had done so many of the pictures and artwork that I enjoyed from the older books. In my opinion he was definatly one of the "good" artists of the time.

Huh, in the industry, that should be called 'pulling a Howard'. [Named after Howard Hughes or Howard Thomspon, your choice.]
