I've contemplated checking it out, but I've heard the community on LoL is nowhere near as friendly as the community here is, and I am the very definition of n00b. (I'm also mostly a single-player gamer.) Should I give it a crack anyway?

I've only played one game online with random players and they were typical Internet gamers, which is to say they were abusive while winning and annoying while losing. Some of my teammates acted the same way too. I can't speak for the whole community because I'm too new to it. I can however, advise trying it out because it's a really fun game. I've got a group of friends who all like to play together and all but one of us are brand new to the game. We've still got to deal with the other team but really, we just ignore those guys. lol If you like, feel free to add me to your friends list, I'd be happy to play with you sometime. We could play a few games against bots so you could check it out and see how it plays before we played against live opponents.
