That's only true because Freddie Mercury died of AIDS, while Richards and Jagger drink the blood of young groupies to keep going.
I honestly put the Rolling Stones in the "just OK" category. Like Clint said, there's a handful of really good songs, and there's not enough of them for me that I'm going out and picking up their albums.
Also, Werefrog forgot Johnny Cash, Alice Cooper, Meat Loaf, AC/DC, and Black Flag.

I guess AIDS did us all a favor if it meant an end to Queen.

Tasteless, crass, unfunny.
ETA: They were a terrible band, and he dies then everyone became a fan all of the sudden. If he had died of cancer he would probably have been forgotten and they would be remembered as just another crappy band that no one cared about. Also, it was over 20 years ago... not exactly pouring salt in a fresh wound.

I don't really care about the band; you're more than free to dislike them. Celebrating someone's death - especially someone who died relatively young from a wasting disease - is both crass & tasteless.
I'm not upset you said it, I'm just surprised. From what I've read of your comments here, you seem better than this. While I can appreciate your frustration with what appear to be "me too!" faux fans of a band you never liked - that's not the fault of someone who died decades ago.
In any case, everyone has a low-social-sense day from time to time. Maybe this was just one of yours.

I was a fan of Queen, but I don't think they had the impact of The Stones.
I understand this is very subjective. But I'll put Gimme Shelter up against anything.
And I respectfully disagree that they had only a handful of really good songs....again, I understand that's a matter of personal taste.

Rolling Stones were great. Queen were great.
Being culturally significant matters. Impacting future artists matters. If a celebrated band from a previous era sounds bland to you, it's because they were seminal and everyone copied them. Everyone copied them for a reason.

Great points.
To put this as unscientifically as possible....
If I were invited to a party, and was told that due to some technical difficulties, they could only play one band's albums all night, I'd go with The Rolling Stones.
