 Re: Doodles
Better than what I can do free hand. Of course, if we want to get into '3d modelling' doodles, I could throw down with that. -- TAZ

 Re: Doodles
How does one doodle in 3D modeling. Although, from my perspective 'how does one do 3D modeling' is also a valid question, so you win on that front. Also, thanks!

Start throwing down primitives, transform them, see what you come up with. I should show you some of the "girder starships" I came up with for a Diaspora game. Spaceships look really awesome in an industrial way once you abandon things like streamlining.

 Re: Doodles
Also, you can use a sculpting tool for organic modelling or (my favorite) use a parts based modeller like DōGA CGA and slap together bits to make things that look cool. -- TAZ

Read through all of problem sleuth and the other MSPaint adventures though. Heres a really quick (under 1min?) sketch I did of my zippo. I don't think Zippos burn like that, I used a BIC lighter as a reference for the flame 'cuz my Zippo is out of fluid atm.

 Re: Doodles
The flame on a Zippo is much more natural in that it isn't an ignited jet of flame like from a BIC, but a soaked material burning. It'll have nice waves with the slightest wind, and naturally build and ebb. How to convey that in a quick sketch, I have not a clue.

Download Google Sketchup and play around with it. It's surprisingly sophisticated, user friendly, and free - though it's not nearly as good with many models as AutoCad, Solid Works, et. all.
