Only having seen 4 episodes so far,
The Werefrog would like Twilight Sparkle were it not for her name. Twilight Sparkle is too reminiscent of that pseudovampire from that series The Werefrog despise, you know the one.
However, being one to study, make sense.
Also, the queen is made out to be a jerk in the first episode. Twilight Sparkle realizes they will be confined to endless night, and the queen knows this too. The queen knows just how to stop the endless night, but doesn't tell Twilight Sparkle how.
Twilight Sparkle, after being mocked by all the other ponies for putting her studies (how to save the freaking world) ahead of making friends (who wouldn't be all that well off if evil pony turns it to night forever). The queen, instead of telling her that the way to defeat the evil pony starts with making friends, sends her on a quest to meet ponies who do certain things to plan a party, while everyone is oblivious to the danger. Then at the end, after the friends help Twilight Princess bring back the sun, the queen reveals that was her plan all along.
Why let Twilight Sparkle fret so much? Why not just let her know the key to do it is to make friends, and to make friends, she should check out certain places for planning the party.
One could argue that while Princess Celestia knows how to defeat Nightmare Moon, she cannot use the Elements because they were linked to her and her sister, Princess Luna. Thus she needed Twilight Sparkle and the others to find them, link with them, and then use them to defeat Nightmare Moon.
As for Celestia actually telling Twilight Sparkle the truth behind what is going on: consider it like a roleplaying game. When has the GM ever really told you what your characters should be doing?
On that note, Friendship is Dragons is an awesome webcomic based around the idea of FiM as a roleplaying game. Check it out.

Edit, the accent isn't really African, it's more Jamaican.
The term "African accent" really doesn't make much sense. It's a large continent, with several major geographical barriers that impede easy linguistic spread, with a whole bunch of languages that provide the background for accents. These accents are not unified, aren't exactly moving towards unification quickly, and pretty much position Africa as the last or second to last* continent likely to see accent unification if accent unification ever happens. That background pretty much renders "African accent" utterly meaningless unless it is intended to be a uselessly broad category.
*Asia, on account of how huge it is and the drastic differences between East Asia, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia is the other serious contender.
