Game of Thrones. But only if you can stomach the good guys not winning all the time. Otherwise, Wheel of Time.

Yup. A Song of Ice and Fire is solid.
As are any Robin Hobb trilogies, any books by China Meiville, and the Mistborn trilogy. All worth reading.

I voted GoT because WoT just hasn't grabbed me. I'm a few chapters into the first and it's really not calling me to read it.
However. You could do a lot worse than the Black Company series (nine or ten depending on if you count the spinoff book, available pretty cheap as omnibus editions) or Joe Abercrombie's work (one close-coupled trilogy, two further books in the same world with recurring characters)

Re: wanted: new Epic fantasy series
WoT was well written, but it was too cliched for me. Neophyte youngsters are warriors of destiny, yada yada yada JRPG. The series helped to cement that as a cliche, but I read it too soon after the Memory Thorn Sorrow book and the Seeker and Sword of Justice thing. Game of Thrones was a huge relief from that meme.

I love 'em both. So....I can't choose, honestly. It depends on what you're looking for in a series.

Which obviously begs the question, "What do you think each series provides, Jahaili?" Yes. It does. And I thought about providing an answer, but then I was like, "Oh, hey, dinner." Anyway. Game of Thrones is a lot of political intrigue. It's darker and you can't count on the good guys winning. However, I often get bored when Martin goes off into characters that I care nothing about, and that's made it really hard for me to get through a couple of his books. I really like the intrigue and the darker narrative. Wheel of Time is much more typical epic fantasy, and what I like most about it is how so many characters are working toward whatever ends they think is important. The sheer amount of world-building is also fascinating; Jordan created a ton of societies and cultures and gave them life. In this series, I was actually able to relate to one of the characters quite a bit; I haven't had that experience with Martin. However - the positives can be downsides, too. There is a LOT of worldbuilding that happened, and a crap ton of description. The books are long, and the series is massive.

If you haven't read it yet, I'd suggest Brandon Sanderson's "Mistborn" series.

I voted for the Gnome Chronicles.
