Post Re: Fear the Boot Writer's Guild
Quick reminder:

Next meeting is June 30.

Discussion Topic:
Hiding plot from your reader. When a character knows something, but you don't show it to the reader are you cheating them? Is there a non frustrating way to do this?

Submissions:
Zircher
SilverSeraph (we'll go over the Oz War stuff you sent us last time, but maybe you could give us another scene or two in addition? :D )
Saragon

Writing Prompt:
Your parents have thrown you a surprise birthday dinner and have invited your two favorite fictional characters (can be literary, television, movie, etc.). There’s only one problem: Turns out, the characters don’t get along.

Also...Seraph helped me figure out something that I hadn't realized was a huge problem. But he's made the bad guy way more interesting and compelling, and now I'm not sure I want to kill him off at the end of the book like I had originally planned.

While it's not 'literature', I have done some writing and it's always nice to get feedback.

About a week ago someone made a joke about creating a play set for The Trouble with Rose based on Everyone is John.

Challenge accepted. :-D

Here's a pretty good article/blog post on writer's block from Ryan Macklin today: "How do we demystify Writer's Block"

I like what he's saying, about demystifying it. The thing I don't like about the term Writers Block, is it's not unique to writers, or even creative types. The hesitancy and procrastination that comes with starting a project effects everyone. Sometimes we have a lack of ideas, but my guess is what that really means is we have a lack of ideas we think are good.
Sometimes we have are paralyzed, we know what we want to say, but for some reason can't find the words to say it. That seems no different then analysis paralysis and the cure is, make a choice, even if it's the wrong one.

Heh, logged in to check e-mail and found the invite for tonight. Did it somehow get delayed way late?

No, but we're still on screwing around chatting. There might be some 3 Dragon Ante at some point, too.

Sorry I missed the meeting. With the announcement of the ENnies nominations, I got caught up in paperwork and sorting through things in preparation for Gen Con.

I think I'll actually be able to attend the next meeting, though!

Heh, The Trouble with Rose didn't make the cut. But, that's not a surprise, lots of good stuff out there. Oh well, I guess I'll pin my hopes on the Indie RPG Awards. :-)
