A huge part of why I hate 300 (and one of the things that held Watchmen back) was the way the action scenes (aka 95% of 300) were shot. The constant slowdown-to-fast-forward shots were incredibly irritating. Pick a freakin' camera speed and stick to it! A particularly egregious example of this is in Sucker Punch, in fact. Just look at the last music video with the train and the robots. I think that was about a 30-second fight scene. Stretched out over about five minutes. Re: What's the worst SF/Fantasy Sequel/Prequel of all time? I've got to agree with the squirrel. The theme of 300 was super violent xenophobic pulp, and I was okay with that. But the camera speed variation and angles whipping around are a shoddy technique. It took what started as a visually lush movie and turned it into a cheese grater for your eyeballs. I would have given it an A- if not for the battle scenes.
