Wreck-It Ralph
This seems like it could be fun, but then so did a lot of stuff Disney made in the last ten years that turned out to be poorly structured disappointments.
Is anyone looking forward to this? Any other thoughts? Chainsaw?

I expressed considerably interest when I brought it up in the random videos thread, and I continue to be interested. It looks like Disney learned something from having Pixar in their pocket, and I hope that's true.
Or they just poached some good people, I'm cool with that too.

This exactly.
I suppose the words "cautious optimism" are the one's I'll use for this.

I prefer to think of it as 'mostly-restrained pessimism'

I might give it a whirl, on Netflix if nothing else, or possibly in theater if it comes out at the right time.
That said, I'm kinda surprised they didn't just use Donkey Kong--since, you know, that really WAS what Nintendo did with him.

November, if that helps decide.

First thought: Merchandising. Ralph is an original character they can pimp the shit out of and never have to share the profits and is something folks will associate strictly with the Disney brand.
After that, I'd say for reasons of character. You drop DK in there and folks familiar with him will be judging the plot beats based on what they know of him, which may or may not be consistent with the story they want to tell. Also, DK can emote but not engage in meaningful dialog, which again, might hamper the story.

I'm not even giving this cautious optimism, I'm down right excited for this film.

Re: Wreck-It Ralph
My son is really excited about this.
I think it looks fun, but here's my worry. The concept will wear thin pretty quickly. Once the novelty of "hey that's XX from YY" wears off, there won't be much else here. As with so many feature movies this would make a great hour-long television episode that they will stretch into 90 minutes wherein it will wander, drag, and grow old. (See the Lorax).
That being said, I will probably see it in the theater. All my son has to say is, "let's go to the movies" and I'll pay to see some of the worst crap out there.
