The word has changed. Just like you don't use gay for happy anymore.

No, the meaning of the word endures, even if many people use it incorrectly. You can't just say that because lots of people get it wrong that automatically makes their version right and the right version is now wrong. Well, you can say that, but that still doesn't make it right.

Hardly. Plenty of people still use the word properly, and given the difference in connotations between literally and actually they can't neatly substitute each other. Literally is a superior term in context.

Language evolves.

Quote:
lit·er·al·ly   [lit-er-uh-lee] adverb
1.
in the literal or strict sense: What does the word mean literally?
2.
in a literal manner; word for word: to translate literally.
3.
actually; without exaggeration or inaccuracy: The city was literally destroyed.
4.
in effect; in substance; very nearly; virtually.

No. 3 is the definition that I, and Mr Memo, was referring to. I was stating that if he did not want his words to be confused, he can use a different word to substitute.

To me, literally, is more in lines with 1 or 2 which does not fit with how Mr. Memo used it.

That use of the rolling eyes smilie is rather objectionable, you know. It comes across as rather condescending.

So does about half of the things she says. Why should this be any different?

The other half are simply insipid.

Queen Revenna wins. Is that what you wanted? Because that's what's happening, here.

Now I'm sad but I don't know any really deep, moving dwarven dirges and that makes me even sadder. :( :( :(

However, whether or not this particular term has "evolved" depends entirely on how we weigh the opinions of the various people who use it. Somehow, I don't think that the opinions of those who use it in sentences along the lines of "OMG, that class, like, literally catapulted my vocabulary, lol" should carry much weight.
