I feel for you, Keith. I saw it in 3D and it was a sight to behold.

I saw it, I enjoyed it. The comic timing was brilliant.

Regarding Coulson's death, Freemage has it right. As long as Nick Fury's around, no one stays dead for long. Hell, as far as I'm concerned, the Fury we see is just a sufficiently advanced clone bot.

That would be a really challenging story to write. Kind of like Superman if he never got sent to earth.

That's one I've seen, too, as well as Superman having different landing zones when he hits Earth. Russian Supes was kinda interesting. Imagine someone with his power-set working for the KGB (at least, until he finds out ways in which they are betraying the Revolution).

IIRC, most of the time, if Wayne's parents don't die when they did, they die later on, or some other tragedy kicks in. Bruce Wayne is Schrodinger's Butt-Monkey. Sometimes, though, I've seen it suggested that since a sizeable portion of Gotham's worst villains were essentially reactions to the Bat (including, of course, all the times it's been suggested that Bats was responsible for the Joker), Gotham sans Batman becomes a fairly ordinary city with fairly few 'supervillian' types.

Yeah, I loved Red Son. Or, well... I loved it as a concept. It was derailed fairly quickly by standard comic book bullshit (ie. ridiculous villains and interaction with extended continuity).

Superman was sent away from Krypton 12 hours earlier, so his rocket fell to Earth it landed in the Soviet Union instead of Kansas. He is raised by the State and becomes part of the Cold War arms race.

Lex Luthor is a hero in America, because his anti-Superman plots become patriotic counter-balances to the Superman weapon. He finds and copies Green Lantern rings to make an army capable of fighting Superman. Batman is a terrorist whose parents were killed in one of Stalin's many purges. Wonder Woman is Greece's ambassador to the SU (If I recall correctly). Lots of cool bits.

I thought the ending of Red Son was great and was a cool twist on the Supes v Lex conflict. Luthor is portrayed as his typical mad scientist self 'til the final act when Superman discovers he isn't the hero he believed himself to be. His altruism caged the world. After Superman's 'death', President Luthor realizes that the socialists had some good ideas after all. The 'Luthorism' philosophy that blends the best of all governing systems comes to light and the world turns into a utopian global democracy run by artists, philosophers and scientists.

I saw it. I liked it. Clearly, my taste has excessive elements of the philistine in it, and these need to be purged.

Well for me it had a pretty good balance of contemporary sensibility with the classic storytelling. It was truly epic in scope while maintaining the intimate details. It had a happy ending while pulling off drama as well. These are things Joss just doesn't do well in my opinion.

I'm kinda surprised this hasn't made it here yet. Or at least, my quick scroll through hasn't yet.

For those of us who adore Coulson and like to see him doing awesome things:

I like how SHIELD training gives you total mastery of wire-fu.

I like how it takes over $70 of gas to fill up your tank when you fill up at a Roxxon station. Evil!
