One of the benefits of being an NBC affiliate is that we get to see the pilot episodes of Fall Shows (a both good and bad thing)
Got the pilot for 'Revolution' which is a JJ Abrams post-apoc type show where the action takes place 15 years after the lights went out, and never came back on.
Honestly, the show doesn't look bad. The visuals alone really help to set the scene and add to the show quite well. Acting - not bad. Storyline - Interesting enough to make me want to watch a second episode.
My biggest beef with the show? The costuming. The characters are wearing clothes that in no way whatsoever would they be able to wear 15 years after all electricity goes away. It is distracting, but I was able to look past that, Fans of Skies of Glass may want to check it out.
The Trailer:

You lost me at JJ Abrams.
Uh, yeah. The trailer looks fantastic. I have no confidence in JJ Abrams to resolve mysteries with anything but magic and hand waving.
How is it that lights don't come back on? We generate power in so many different ways and there are people and facilities completely off the grid. Unless something fundamentally happened to make electricity unusable, like the Earth's core turning into some sort of massive electrical spiking device, there will still be power out there somewhere. And, no, you can't just nuke everything everywhere, even with all of the existing nukes. If the power goes out and doesn't come back, it is because there is a concerted effort by someone to keep it off. That could be an isolated island or it could be something ala The Village - M. Night Shyamalan.

Planes don't fall out of the sky like that...
And I'm trying to wrap my head around the crossbow. Also, the director sucks.

Looks pretty good from the trailer. The plane falling was hilarious though.

The nerd rage... it burns.
To Citizen Joe's point, they do address that crazy-assed aspect in the beginning of the show, asking that question as to "why and how did this happen."
They do not provide an answer, but I believe that's the core mystery of the show.

Two possibilities come to mind. I'll put them in spoiler tags, though I have no idea which (if either) of these is applicable in the show.
Never going to get explained because of J.J. Abrams.
