Re: Ubisoft is dropping always on DRM
We've heard this from them before. The Prince of Persia re-reboot was released without DRM, then when it was inevitably pirated, Ubisoft used that as an excuse to jack up the DRM to current legendary levels. -- Ben

Re: Ubisoft is dropping always on DRM
Maybe they finally realized that always-on DRM is costing them more than it's saving them.

From what I understood, it sold rather poorly on PC. Said poor sales were then blamed on piracy, naturally ignoring the actual problem of the 2008 PoP game being crappy. It's also why the DLC wasn't released on PC. Funny, I don't recall anyone screaming it would be the death of storytelling and betrayel of artistic integrity when that DLC revised the game's ending.

If you don't want it pirated, cloud host the game. Since everything is server side, nobody has access to the coding to pirate it.

Can you cloud host a large 3D game, inexpensively, for a large number of players? Because that seems like a lot of bandwidth and expense.
Personally, I hate always-on DRM. Sometimes I just want to play offline.
