So I have had this idea to run a weekly Multiplayer RP using Minecraft where everyone plays colonists trying to build a new colony on a new planet and I have finally stabilized my RL situation well enough that I can feel comfortable committing to running this and I wanted to see if there would be any interest in it. Since it will be a scifi type RP I will be using the Tekkit modpack to simulate the technological stuff in it. It also has the added bonus of being incredibly easy to install for the less technically minded who might be interested. So anyone interested in this?

Interested. Checked out the Technic page, but that was about useless in providing details as to what the mod actually does and any screen shots. I imagine the forum has more info. Will research that tonight if nobody posts any more info.

So, for role playing purposes is the server only going to be up at set times or will it be 24/7 so that folks can build even when no one is present?

Given some of the functionality of the Technic pack, I'd say it almost has to be up 24/7. Automatic mining machines don't do a lot of good if the world isn't running.

well if there is enough interest I might rent a server but for now it will be hosted on one of my machines so i will have the server up less than 24/7 as it isn't designed for that.

Agreed, that website is almost combatively non-informative.
