I have nothing against these guys, but is anyone getting tired of the "me too" aspect of Kickstarter? It seems like if anyone does something of mild success on Kickstarter, then everyone who has been out of the game since the same time decides to throw in as well.
Meanwhile, people like Mikey Mason who only really have one voice have to struggle to push through a financial campaign, and still have to work every day so that people's laughs can feed his family.
Maybe I'm just being bitter.
I can understand that sentiment, but I think kickstarter can honestly help both kinds of people - I don't see it as a zero sum game.
Here's another perspective: Publishers don't fund this kind of game anymore. These guys haven't been able to make an adventure game in 15+ years, not because they don't want to, not because all the fans suddenly disappeared, but because some guys in suits decided they weren't worth the effort. Its not like they're jumping on kickstarter to steal someone else's meal ticket; they're jumping on kickstarter because they can finally engage their fan support directly to help them make games that they love to make.
I'm happy to be able to support game types like classic CRPGs and Adventure Games that the big boys left for dead more than a decade ago. I'm tired of Modern Face Shooter 15 and Space Face Shooter 25 and World War Face Shooter 87.
Its hard to get noticed on kickstarter, but I'm glad its out there for the well known developers of yesteryear as well as the people who just have a dream and want to give it a shot.
