 Evochron Mercenary
As a big fan of space sims, this caught my eye. Has anyone checked it out, and if so how is it?

I've always wanted to get into one, but have been put off by the learning curve. I've been watching for reviews of this one as well.

This looks a lot like Privateer and Space Rogue so I've had my eye on it. I think I'll wait until it drops in price to the sub $10 level. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wing_Commander:_Privateerhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Rogue

Same here. It looks intriguing, but I'm trying to scrape together enough for ME3 by the time that comes out.

 Re: Evochron Mercenary
Shared-universe multiplayer a la Minecraft, or just jump-in-an-arena-and-shoot-at-each-other multiplayer? Can't check the videos atm.

 Re: Evochron Mercenary
It appears to be shared world coop go on missions together and such. I'd be willing to bet you aren't forced to coop however. Edit: From the Steam store page on the game: Steam wrote: Unified gameplay architecture and profiles let you keep the ship, upgrades, equipment, money, weapons, crew, and commodities you acquire in the game for use in both single player and multiplayer.
Cooperative multiplayer objectives that pay all linked players. Join forces with other players to complete more challenging activities that can offer much better pay.
Construct space stations to dynamically expand the game's universe with new trade routes, docking points, and economies. The online multiplayer system stores player built stations with the server so other players can have access to the new stations and trade routes you create.

 Re: Evochron Mercenary
I just played the tutorial, and maybe 10m of actual play. I kind of like it, though the UI takes some learning. Combat can be quite challenging to start with. I won my first dogfight, and got blown up in my second. It does have some really neat features, like being able to turn off the jets that keep you moving in the direction your facing (allowing you to get going fast, and turn around shooting backwards). All in all, I'm pretty sure I'll get the $12 worth of entertainment out of it.
