Whenever I am near the chests, I empty my inventory of everything I will not be using within the next five minutes. Whenever I need to leave my base to do something important, I go to the chests to get the exact items I need and take nothing else with me. This makes watching Minecraft videos on Youtube a bit weird, because apparently no one knows how to use a fricken chest in this game. People will go through the trouble of building weapons and armor for the sole purpose of raiding a dungeon they recently found and looting all the stuff from it. Despite all this preparation, no one ever thinks that it might be a good idea to leave their fence posts, flint, and coblestone in a chest to make room for the loot. They'll even throw their mushrooms on the ground instead of putting them in the same chests they JUST looted buckets from. No joke, I just watched a guy with a full inventory swap one stack of items for another stack of items in a half-empty chest. He then turns around and starts trying to take items out of a furnace, only he has no space to put anything. So he scrambles to figure out what items he can leave IN the furnace in exchange for the items he wants to take FROM the furnace... THERE IS A FREAKING EMPTY CHEST RIGHT NEXT TO YOU!!! GYAAAAH!!!! The worst part is that no matter how hard I yell at my computer screen, they never seem to take a hint. *cough* Logistics Pipes *cough*

Nothing valuable, just enough to ensure that I didn't die until I could stabilize my predicament. At that farm I spawned near, I took a few loaves of bread, a couple pieces of coal, a string, a few logs of wood, a few pieces of cobblestone, and made use of the nearby mine to obtain iron. I lead an entire flock of wild sheep to one of the pens, so I did give something back. I also harvested (and replanted) the sugar cane crop a few times, only keeping one of four stacks for myself. Aside from that, there were a couple of places in nearby towns which appeared to be intended for public use. From those, I took some more loaves of bread and a bunch of rotten flesh. Basically, I've been acting like a hobo. Once I settle on a location to construct my wizard tower (and dismantle my tree house), I'll try to gather some replacement stuff for the odds and ends I borrowed.

 Re: Minecraft
Yup, I did the same thing. I think I'll start a n00b castle near the spawn point, chock full of stuff a new arrival might need...

 Re: Minecraft
I may have located the region I want to put my tower in. There is a Taiga biome near the testificate village in the desert to the southwest (the one with the "Zylo was here" sign). Snow-covered terrain always appeals to me in video games.
As for the Testificate Village, I think it could use a little work. Mobs keep spawning inside the walls, which is likely why there are only two Testificates left. That place needs torches everywhere. Also, the place looks like it's been taken over by Israphel, what with all the sand. There is a biome with trees and grass right next to it, so I think we could make the place green if we replaced the top two layers of sand with dirt.

 Re: Minecraft
The village is now reasonably safe, and my magic is slowly repelling Israphel's influence. Now if we can just get the villagers to repopulate.

 Re: Minecraft
Did you try feeding them wheat?
I like feeding wheat to my cows and saying, "Ya'll two have sex now."
