Post Re: In the Lady's Shadow 2.0 (IC)
Morlan, Liana, Joshua, and Emfrid arrive at the Great Bazaar; a faction headquarters with no set borders, sprawling out in the form of a tent city in a grand park, but reaching with many fingers down the long avenues that web outward in all directions.

Liana points the way to Rinsvald Street, where Imel's Happy Tongue sits. She pulls a promotional handbill out from her things, which you left sitting on the table in the tower's foyer some time ago.

Quote:
Imel's Happy Tongue
Casual and Family Dining

This week's feature: CHEESES OF THE PLANES

Krigalan Black - 8 sp
A full-bodied cheddar from the Beastlands

Warrior's Cheese - 2 gp
Sharp, hearty delicacy, flavored in Baatorian smoke

Bytopian Red - 1 gp
Made from milk of Dothion Goats, perfect for breakfast

Tiefling's Delight - 2 gp
Special for our tiefling friends, a blend of Bytopian Red with special mints

Death Cheese - 10 gp
Prime Material treat, made from catoblepas milk

All Prices per Pound
Bring this to Imel. Tell him it's your lucky day! -H.H.

With the weather bright, clear, and comfortably warm, Liana hopes to get a table at the rooftop diner. Emfrid agrees that it's a good idea, as she can watch for Dunn from there.

Joshua starts to feel he is on a date with Emfrid, and looks for a polite escape route...

"Save the world? What do you mean?", Dunn shouts back.

Taking the potion, Dunn says, somewhat meekly, "are you kicking me out?"

Morlan in his finery, accompanied by Liana in her new fur coat, cuts quite an imposing dash. He smiles broadly at the maitre d'hotel (he's not sure how that translates into common) and turns on the full aristocratic charm. :D

"Your finest table in the rooftop garden, my dear fellow. My friends and I have heard only good things about your establishment and we are keen to test their veracity."

He gestures towards the leaflet Liana carries.

"Bring us a sample of each, if you please, and I leave the choice of appropriate drinks to accompany them to your expertise." :D

He stands looking expectant, as if waiting to be led to his table.

In addition to the questions above, Dunn will ask the gnome his gname, where he comes from, how long he's been in Sigil, and why he wanted to do what he's doing, and write it all down. For the book.

"I have been staying at a place," is the tiefling's rather vague reply, "but I would not mind moving under the circumstances. It might be best if I avoid old haunts for a while." She gives some thought to Mellonion's suggestion. "If you think I'd be welcome." Joshua seems less unfriendly than he had, but she is less sure about what Morlan's opinion might be.

Nilis is able to buy a middle-class disguise for 30 gold. What dwarves aren't engaged in gambling are happy to provide the necessary directions, and point out a portal to a dwarf-owned jewelery shop in the Bazaar of Sigil. (How's that for convenient? Really does seem a likely portal for Vergadain's Realm though.)

"I have also thus far neglected to join a faction," Box chimes in. "Though all modrons are considered honorary Guvners, I suspect the honor may not extend to me."

"Is there a faction that appeals to you?" Nilis is quite willing to discuss this subject with Box, but will not brazenly proselytize her own non-faction.

Before going through the portal, Nilis goes somewhere that is hopefully out-of-the-way to 'change.' She really doesn't want every dwarf in this realm to figure out what's going on. Regretfully, she washes off her perfume, knowing that the one she normally uses is too distinctive for her present circumstances. She goes for the most evil-looking red eyes she could find on short notice, not least because they are such a common physical trait for plane-touched, and one that she does not share in reality. Hair will be brown and quite normal, and differently styled. If she can cover up her ears to make them appear human, either through a prosthetic such as a stage actor might use, or by creative hair styling, she will; otherwise she'll have to resort to a hood. Red eyes look out over a pretty face veil; even considering the number of societies whose members wear those, a decent subset of tieflings wear them (or scarves, or masks...) to hide facial deformities. Nilis worries about her hands; of all her unique physical traits, they are the feature most likely to give her away. Eventually she settles on a pair of gloves that detract from their strangeness. She also adds some inexpensive jewelry of a sort her old self would not be caught dead wearing. (She had always been taught to go with conservative, well made, and expensive when it came to such matters.) If she can manage a reddish, nonhuman skin tone, she'll add that as well.

Inwardly, she's surprised at how nervous she feels at the prospect of returning to the City of Doors. She won't be forgetting the experience of being dragged (out of the Lady's Ward of all places) through a portal with a sack over her head anytime soon. She does have friends as well as enemies in town, though.

Feeling paranoid, she throws on an all-concealing cloak, just so that most of the dwarves in this realm won't be aware of her disguise. The fabric is of much worse quality, and considerably more travel-worn, than anything the others have seen her in previously. She'll remove it once she has entered the jewelry shop on the other side.

"What do you say, cutter?" She speaks in a very different voice from her usual one. "Ready for a little trip?"

If Mellonion is in agreement, she'll head through the portal.

"Once we find everyone, we shall ask. We have several components to our property in Sigil, so we could likely find a place for you in an outlying building if there are objections to having you at the main tower."

Mel does not object and follows Nilis through the portal.

"No, no... it's for safety's sake!" the gnome says of the potion. "I'm afraid I must depart!"

He reaches into his beard and pulls a jewel loose, which Dunn immediately recognizes as one of Aoskar's blood gems. He rolls the jewel manically between his knuckles, seeming to tick his tongue to some unheard rhythm.

"It's a portal," he shouts, almost laughing. "The whole thing! The whole city is one big gate to everywhere! You just have to time it right!"

He climbs up onto the lip of the basket again, still ticking away with his tongue. He consults his device again.

"Faoilan Sulie, Godsman," he answers. "My world got cut off. We all thought it was gone forever. But I have a chance to fix it!"

Apparently, he doesn't have time to answer the other questions, as he suddenly leaps from the balloon. Startled, Dunn reaches out to catch him but the gnome plummets out of his grasp. Dunn can see as he looks down over the edge, that it is as Mr. Sulie said - the balloon's trajectory is safely aimed for the interiour of Sigil's ring. He watches as the gnome tumbles down toward the city.

Again, he receives flashing visions of other worlds: A vast, green sea rippling with fluorescent algae; an endless army of mortally-wounded soldiers marching through an ancient forest; a majestic palace floating among clouds.

Faoilan vanishes suddenly as he passes through the ring.

The handbill is outdated, but a lovely human hostess assures Morlan that there should still be some assorted cheeses in stock.

The building is a single story, though large, and contains several counters to cater to various needs (a butcher, baker, saucier, etc). In addition, there are several aisles of shelved wines and exotic spices and herbs.

A wooden stair leads up onto the wide, flat roof, where thirty tables of varied sizes and shapes are clumped to one side. The other half of the roof is left vacant for picnics, and for listening to the performances of the house musician; an elven minstrel with a lute.

Although the place is busy, you are quickly led to a table. Once you've been sat and your order's been placed, a half-elf in comfortable garb approaches.

"Imel Brustur, proprietor!" he says, smiling pleasantly. "We pride ourselves on providing every flavor on the planes, and we love a challenge! Don't hesitate to request items that aren't on our menus. No squid, but anything else, really!"

Emfrid suddenly claps, pointing off to the right.

"There they are!" she laughs. "They're really moving!"

"Past attempts to emulate Emfrid have failed," Box says in answer to Nilis' question. "I would make a poor Xaositect. I have not considered other options."

After stepping through the portal, the trio emerge into the Great Bazaar, from the space between two market stalls, framed overhead by a length of hooked chain which supports a string of day-old salmon. A humanoid bound so tightly in chains that he looks something like a mummy glances up from skinning fresh fish to note your arrival, but offers no greeting.
