This will be the game set-up thread for my Shaintar campaign. So far the player's are my non-FtB friends and GamerInterface. We can probably accommodate one more player if anyone is interested.

GamerInterface- Ariago Spinella, Nazatiran Bodyguard
Erin- Gwendolyn Breuer, Olaran Druid
ScottA- Lars Gundrin, Olaran Warrior Mage
BeDahhh- Kel Fylgurup, Goblin Scout

Look to this thread for campaign background, rules, and character profiles.

Campaign Info-

We will be using the Savage Worlds system. The Test Drive rules are short and sweet and should give you enough info about how the mechanics will be worked on my end. You can get them from http://www.peginc.com/Downloads/SWEX/TD06.pdf

The setting will be a modified Shaintar: Immortal Legends. I will post the relevant setting info, but if you wish to check some out for yourself without purchasing the book you can check http://talisman-studios.com/index.php?blog=11&cat=79 for the free world book info.

All the dice rolling will be done on my end to make things more fluid. Take a look at other PbP games going on here to get a feel for how it will play.

Players should post a minimum of once a day if possible. Obviously there will be times when you can't due to sickness, vacations, ect. In that case just make sure you let me know you will be gone. If a player fails to post in a timely manner his character will be put on 'auto pilot' until his return.

Introduction

Border skirmishes have always been a part of life along the Northeastern border of Olara. The Prelacy sends forth its zealots to cause mayhem and renegade Goblinesh sometimes venture forth to raid caravans or farms.

It is for this very reason that the Grey Ranger’s originally build the small keep of Ranger’s Watch between the cities of Bearheart and Thuls. The Rangers have helped defend the Kingdom from the unjust aggression of enemies for many years, but recently attacks on remote farms and villages have escalated to a level not seen in quite some time.

It is the third day of the Harvest Moons and your squadron has been called forth to discuss the priorities of your upcoming ranging.

Common Knowledge

Northeastern Olara

The city of Bearheart dominates the region and acts as a center for commerce and defense. The city and surrounding area is ruled by the Duke of Bearheart, Lord Manfred Koll. The region is mostly covered in mountains and hills except to the Southeast where the rolling hills and patchy conifer forests slowly turn into sprawling plains near the city of Thruls.

The border, as is the case in most of the Southern Kingdoms, is somewhat ‘flexible’. In the eyes of Olara, the Crystal River marks the border with the Prelacy to the North, twenty-five miles out from The Forges to the West, and twenty-five miles out from the road between Bearheart and Thuls to the East. The Prelacy has always contested these borders of course and many battles have been fought over the issue. The Goblinesh Gather of Branosh has mostly accepted the boundaries, but new leadership could change that fact.

Ariago Spinella, Nazatiran Bodyguard

Ariago is from the far-off nation of Nazatir, part of the southern islands. He was trained not as a sailor (as most Nazatirans are), but as a warrior and bodyguard for one of the many Nazatiran nobles. (I'm shooting for a Machiavellian many city-states kind of political background). Unfortunately for Ariago, the noble he was specifically employed betrayed a far more powerful noble, and vanished.

Ariago was kidnapped, taken to a dark cell, and tortured for two years. Each day, the torturer would come in, ask Ariago where his lord had gone, and would cut his face (or arms or chest) when he said he didn't know. That is, each time after the first time, where he took Ariago's left eye. Ariago didn't withstand this torture - he gave up everything he knew of his lord. But it wasn't enough, as his prior master knew Ariago might be taken prisoner and had left him out of the loop. So the torture relentlessly continued.

A shift in politics in Nazatir moved new nobles to power - nobles who had carefully avoided taking sides between the feuding houses. Ariago's imprisonment was an embarrassment, but they couldn't just execute him without causing more problems. So, they simply took him from his cell, drugged him into a near-coma, tossed him on a ship bound for northern waters, and left him.

Ariago has wisely chosen not to return to Nazatir - he's rather afraid of his homeland now. But with his extreme disfigurement, about the only job he could secure was employment with the Grey Rangers. He now serves as close-quarters defense for arcane and priestly types, and his two-handed fighting style is graceful and designed only to defend until reinforcements arrive. In his native land, his style of fighting is designed for double-bladed daggers with a single hilt that act like tuning forks, making long clear tones. Masters of the style can use it to either create a single tone so loud as to stun their enemies, or can craft songs that can pierce the AEther and produce some minor effects similar to arcane arts. Ariago lost his daggers in his abduction, however, and was also only a novice in the art of fighting with songdagger - but he has kept his ears and eye open to acquiring a pair.

Yep, that's me - Ariago.

I'm fleshing his background out even further, and I got the GM word to add some XP. I'll probably post a link to a Google Docs document of the whole character background (as it's easily going to be over a page - bit long for a thread post), and I'll try to put together a sketch of the character using this lovely portrait generator.

Pleased to meet you! :)

Here's a basic visualization. In real life, he looks a lot more like someone threw spaghetti all over him, just because he has so many scars and bruises and pock marks. He earns ugly.

Here is Gwen- with Tom's help of course ;)

Gwendolyn Breuer was born the fourth child of Olaf Breuer, Baron of Kampheigen. By the age of ten a marriage to a young noble of House Harken had been arranged without her consent. By Olaran custom the marriage would have to wait until she reached the age of sixteen and for this Gwendolyn was eternally grateful. She spent most of her next few years playing in the forests that dominated her families’ lands. During this time in her life she realized that she was nothing but a bargaining tool to her noble parents and she hated them for that.

Years passed and Gwen spent most of her time deep in the oldest parts of the woods. She prayed to the Ascended for some escape from this life that she did not want. It seems the Ascended had been listening to her prayers, because Gwen began to notice things that she had never seen before. It was like a curtain had been drawn and she was truly seeing the land for the first time. She could ‘feel’ life around her and hear the whispers of the winds.

In her fourteenth year, Gwen met a boy in her woodland playground. His name was William Reiter and he was a common boy. He told her that his father was a horseman of some experience and that they raised thoroughbreds for her father the Baron. The two played together from that day forward and had many great adventures. Life was great and the two teenagers soon fell deeply in love. But time began to run short for Gwendolyn. Her family began stepping up their efforts to groom her for marriage. One day in a rage at her mother Gwen screamed the truth. She was in love with a boy already, a common boy, and she would never marry Gunter Harken!

Some days later young William simply disappeared. Gwendolyn was horrified. When questioned, her parents would only say that the Reiter family had moved on and they no longer served their family. With her arranged marriage only months away, Gwen saw no other option but to run away and truly leave this life behind. She had no love for the life of a noble and saw that her family had no true love for her. One night she slipped out the gates and she never returned. Her family found her nightgown along some rocks near the river and after months of searching she was presumed dead by most.

Gwen ran and ran, always staying away from towns and villages. She found that the Ascended provided most of what she needed to survive alone in the wilderness. Finally, she arrived at the border of Olara and with no place left to run she settled down in a small forest near Thuls. She stayed out of sight mostly, but there were times when some of the local populace would see her about in the forest. With the gifts given to her by the Ascended she would quickly hide herself, but rumors began to surface of a Witch of the Wood. It was these rumors that would lead to her joining the Grey Rangers.

One day a ranging passed near her location in the forest. It turns out the Rangers had been looking for her to find out more about this ‘Witch of the Wood’. At eighteen she was hardly a ‘witch’, but they were none the less impressed with her power to channel gifts from the Ascended. After months of friendship and liaison, she decided that the Rangers mission in life was one that she shared and decided to join their ranks.

Physical Description- Gwendolyn stands about five and a half feet tall. She has long braided blonde hair and her mother’s brown eyes. She is not strong of body, but can be very agile when needed.

Here's the long form of the Ariago background, and I got the image to work there as well.
