Post Call For Players: Amber Diceless PBP
Based on a few mentions on the recent thread on out-of-print games, I'd like to test the waters on interest for Amber Diceless as a PBP game. (I've run a PBP game before for six players that lasted several years.) If you're interested, please reply with:

1) How familiar are you with the Zelazny books? 1 being the low "Wha who?" and 5 being the high "So what is your opinion on the Eregnor situation?"

2) How familiar are you with the Amber Diceless system by Wujcik? 1 being the low "But dice are GOOOD" and 5 being the high "<blank> is THE most important attribute."

3) Amber as a game can favor a group moving together or any number of split-party scenarios, including PVP. If your vote was the sole vote, would you rather focus on a joined party (favors open character development, a single shared IC thread and more possibility for pausing for other players to react) or a split party (which favors sealed auction, hidden character sheets, multiple IC threads and quick responses to posts)?

There is no answer to any of the above that will exclude you from the game - but every answer will shape the game. I have three basic tenets for this game:

1) The Merlin Chronicles do not exist, and any player who says the words "Spikard" or "Ghostwheel" gets an Irish wolfhound in the face.

2) Accommodation of player scheduling is a prime concern. One player who already expressed interest is intermittently available, and we are developing a character who is intermittently available. If your schedule is spotty, we can work together. (For instance, I won't be available on Monday or Thursday nights until really late, except for short posts by phone.)

3) The 'diceless' part is not just a rule - it's a statement that this game cares more about story than combat. I hope every player would write a moderately detailed background, and favor some level of prose style in their IC posts - even inside a combat.

I won't run with less than three players, but I could probably seat eight without fear.

I'd love to jump in on this sirrah, if possible.

1) 1 (heard the name zelazny, but never read anything by him)

2) 2, know the basic idea and what have you.

3) If it was between the two, a joined party sounds more cohesive (and thus more likely to actually see a PBP through to completion).

1) 4 - I've read the series from cover to cover multiple times, but it's been a while.

2) 5 - Duh, everyone knows that Endurance is the ultimate tie breaker.

3) If the majority of the players are Amber rookies, joined party for sure. While I'd like freely splitting and merging groups, it has the possibility of turning into a half dozen lone wolf sessions which can be a chore for the GM.

> I have three basic tenets for this game:

1) I LOLed. But, I'd like to keep the Courts in play since they did have some wonderful personalities as well.

2) I'm flexible.

3) Indeed, a good example would be the sword fight between Inigo Montoya vs Dread Pirate Roberts. :-)

1) I do not recall whether I had read them in high school or simply absorbed alot of information about them through my peer group. Regardless, all that I recall at this point is an immortal man who has forgotten who he is and become mortal.

Looking across the room, I have copies of volumes 1 and 2 on my bookshelf, so I must have read it. I will need to re-read it.

I want to call myself a 2, but in truth, as it's been 20 years since I read anything, I am probably at a 1...but I can fix that.

2) 1 - no familiarity with the system at all. I have often heard it spoken of, but never played it.

3) I prefer to work with the party.

1. I'd say a 3. I've only read the Corwin series, and I haven't read it recently, but I recall a fair bit and I've...

2. 5. ...played a lot of Amber Diceless over the years, and it's stuck with me. The most important stat is whatever the other players haven't prioritized.

3. Honestly, I think Amber plays best when characters can have conflicting agendas, while working toward a larger goal. An Amber game where you can freely trust your siblings/cousins isn't an Amber game. So, a middle ground between Throne War free for all and an Amberite Wizard of Oz would be my preference.

*wave* I'm interested!

1. That would be a 2. I've heard of the books but never read them, sadly.

2. Er. Also a 2. I'm really interested in a diceless system, in a system that favors story over combat, but yeah...never actually managed to get a group to play it.

3. Hmm, interesting. I think I would prefer joined, simply because I've done a lot of games recently where everybody was off doing their own thing instead of working cohesively, and I think a joined party would be a nice change.

My schedule is currently kind of spotty, and will likely remain so for the next couple of weeks (after which, oh hey, the next school semester starts...sigh).

This.

Also: J and Artimisia, we have *got* to quit bumping into each other like this. :D

Familiarity with the Zelazney books: 1 (I've heard the title on the Ken And Robin Talk About Stuff podcast, but that's it).

Familiarity with Amber Diceless: 1 (I know the name. That's it).

Full group or smaller cells: no vote/preference, given my current circumstances.

Availability: tricky. Lots of availability until Jan 9th. After that, I have no idea. It honestly just depends on how well I do at staying on top of school and home life. I could go silent, I could diminish as the semester goes on, or I could post consistently once or twice a day. I really have no way to predict.

What do I need to do to get up to speed enough to make a character and have at least some understanding of the world?

Yeah, my Zelazny exposure is limited. I've read Lords of Light, Donnerjack, and Lord Demon...but that's it. I've never so much as smelled an Amber book.

I don't know. It's good to see some familiar faces. Er...names. Er...internet handles. You know what I mean!

I have no preference as to group size. Whatever the storyteller and the other players want. I'm easy.

Availability...constant-ish. I'm running a PBP, and involved in two others, so that keeps me pretty busy. But (at the moment) nothing time crunchy is happening in my life.
