Well, Jack would like to put Dagger in his place. Do I declare actions and roll or roll and narrate the results? [Need to find where I saved the rules.]

I have no compunction on fighting fast and dirty and striking from behind. If I can catch him as 'unarmed' with a profile of 1, I'll gladly put the fear of Handsome Jack into his hide in front of the whole crew.

Well this crew is well-armed and eager to fight so you not going to catch anybody on board who is unarmed. I think I would prefer intent declared then I roll and then if you succeed you narrate what happens.

So you want to teach him a lesson. if you want to wait for an opening that's a Stealth/Treachery roll(Ambition vs. Brutality), otherwise it's a going into danger roll (Devil vs. Ambition). Which would you prefer?

If you fail a fight will start.

So I rolled Devil vs Ambition. The result was 1 to 2. So now we going to have to fight. I'd rather work out what happens before we narrate what exactly transpires. Dagger is going to use his knife so unless you want to change your weapon it's knife to knife. His profile is 5, compared to your 4 he gets 6 plus a difference of 1.

Rolled: 1,2,6,6,1,6,3

Knife fights always incur minor cuts, bruises
Losing at this point means a scarring but not deadly wound

Your options are:
Flashback - to get more Xs before the fight starts
Spend 3 Xs(all you have) to kill him outright before the fight starts
Roll your brinkmanship to see if you can beat his three successes

That gives you total of 5 because you had 3 to start with, remember I awarded you those 2 for the treachery roll you did when you were taking the captain's stuff under little Tim's nose.
