Re: The Steeplejack Irregulars (In Character Thread)
The story so far...
Five veterans of the Last War were meeting on the fourth anniversary of the Day of Mourning in the Three Wenches in a Well Tavern and Baconry to drink to fallen comrades when they were approached by a mysterious old man. The old man introduced himself as Vior Malik, the leader of the Dark Lanterns, a covert operations specialist group funded by the government.
Malik explained that their commanding officer, Darren Steeplejack, had been arrested for treason, the the subtext suggested that perhaps it was for political (and perhaps more nefarious) reasons. But being that Steeplejack was a national hero, he hinted strongly of a way for them to free him.
After boarding the Lightning Rail that held the key to Steeplejack's freedom, the party discovered a statue of unique design. A huge stone creature that seemed to be half elf, half scorpion guarding a box matching the description of the object of their search. Across the creature's chest in the Drow language was the following phrase: "Is it not enough that I ruined a drow in it's prime making a gift for you?"
Across the box are seven dials, each numbered from 1 to 101. In the end, they liberated the statue from the Lightning Rail car and it's guards (a large contingent of Emerald Claw mercenaries), but have yet to attain the secret of the box at the creature's feet...

Selion directs the air elemental away from the devastated Lightning Rail and away from Sharn to the west. Droaam is supposed to be very nice this time of year, he thinks as he settles the creature on a course and then steps away from the command console. The others have just finished winching the statue on the deck of the small vessel and are studying it more closely. What do you do?

Re: The Steeplejack Irregulars (In Character Thread)
The stout dwarven battle-maiden, Terra Norvaan, leans in closely to the dials and runs her fingers over the indentations. "If only I had brought my copy of Damsels and Dryder's: A Fashionable Dwarf's Guide to Art of the Underworld" Terra muttered out of the side of her mouth, only half-aware that she was thinking out loud. "I reckon there's a code to this..." she said as she slid one of the dials. "The question is... what numbers are significant to ... the ... drow?" Terra paused and looked at the dials reflectively for a moment. ((17 for Knowledge: History important dates in Drow history: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3530125/ ))

Sammi Rowan steps back, unable to place this comment, seeing as her favorite idea is to smash the sculpture open. "How should I know what numbers are significant? The drow are only good for enemies."

Re: The Steeplejack Irregulars (In Character Thread)
Terra: The most significant and notable date in drow history was some 37,000 years ago when the elves and the drow joined forces against their Giant oppressors. Since then, the drow have been little more than a tribal and nomadic society in the jungles of Xen’Drik.
Selion: You can’t quite figure out the spell, however you can easily determine the school and strength of the magic: Moderate transmutation.

Sigil stands lost in thought for a moment trying to collect his scattered thoughts. Then suddenly becomes extremely focused, scanning the construction of the statue and how the magic can keep the box sealed. Knowledge arcana +11 1d20=1425 total

Re: The Steeplejack Irregulars (In Character Thread)
Sigil's eyes glow with concentration as he stares down the statue of the creature. Factors, numbers, possibilities flit through his deeply analytical mind: How such a creature might be made, how such a statue might be made so seemlessly, how the item they seek might become entombed so handily... and then it dawns on him.
A simple stone shape spell.
