The Setting:
For 1000 years Princess Celestia has ruled over Equestria in unrivaled and unwavering peace. But dark rumblings have been moving within the country. While the villainous Nightmare Moon may have been returned to being the innocent Princess Luna, the stars that aided her escape are still moving in their eternal drift across the sky. Beneath Equestria sleeps many a strange dark secret that may yet move to the stars will.

"It's a new day!" Stepper get up out of bed gets dressed and pulls on his boots.
"Today is the day, today I leave on my journey around the world."

After a light breakfast of apple fritters, it's time for him to say goodbye to his father, Cantos.

"Your mother would have been proud to see you today son."
"Thanks Pa, I'm real exited about going, but I sure will miss you."
"An I'll miss you too, Stepper, but it's your destiny out there waitin for ya. Go on, be safe, make lotsa friends and be sure to send your old pa a postcard or two."
"I will Pa." With a small tear in his eye but a song in his heart Stepper sets off on his epic journey

Stepper sets off down the road and soon leaves the town, once in the countryside he stops by a tree stump and pulls out a map.

"Let's see now, where should I head to first?" The young pony musses to himself. "Oh! I know, I'll head on over to Clompton, it's not to far and I always did wanna go there."

Looking over the map Stepper finds that the fastest way to Clompton is to follow an old path though the forest to the west, if he makes good time he can be there before nightfall.
So with a determined gait Stepper heads west and is soon trotting his happy way through the forest singing a tune.

Clyde stirs from his temporary home and greets the dawn with a warm smile a quick drink of water from the stream behind the small orchard where he is staying, and a quick munch of an apple hanging a little too low from the trees. he has agreed to help the farm folk with their harvest, however he really just like showing off how many carts he can pull in each day. he sets off to find the family and report for work. this time of day they should all be awake and ready for work.

And so, Stepper ventures forth on his journey to Clompton! It's an uneventful walk, and the forest is peaceful and quite lovely, if slightly repetitive. And, after about half as long as it should have taken to walk the path, Stepper finds himself exiting the forest to a familiar view. A very familiar view. In fact, it looks identical to where he entered the forest.

Stepper stared suspiciously at the tree's around him. How could he have gotten lost so easily? He was sure that Clompton was this way... or maybe the other way...

As he ponders, He spots a dark spot in the sky, a Pegasus, one he hasn't recognized before, not a local at least. The pegasus was moving with haste westward, apparently in something of a hurry. Figuring that somepony else might have better directions (or at least somepony with an aerial view) He followed from below at a modest pace through the forest, eye to the sky

(Ball back to your court sir, or someone else... if this is unacceptable please scream angrily and I will rush to fix.)

As Clyde made his way toward the farm house, enjoying the warm sun on his powerful back he was struck by just how quiet it was today. Not a single sound emanated from the sturdy building. Not the sounds of breakfast, nor even the ever present yipping of the families two work dogs. The stillness was beginning to worry him. Even the very air was standing still this morning.

Walter frowned slightly as he overlooked the scattered papers that lay across the damp ground under the apple tree under which he had slept the previous night. Needlepoint splotches of wetness perforated the papers as the tips of the grass upon which they lay gave up their dew to the absorbent nature of the stationary.

Across these sheets of paper were scribbled, chemical formulae, mathematical equations and scientific gobbledygook of all sorts. Walter stood and stretched his flanks tossing his mane in consternation, this project was proving to be harder than he had first anticipated. He leaned over and took a bite of the crumpet he had packed the night before.

He often did this; taking his work out into the countryside away from the cramped conditions of his ad hoc lab in the barn down the road. It helped him on some level to think outside the box and solve problems whose solutions would otherwise have eluded him.

As Walter began scanning his notes again, he suddenly realized with dismay that several pages were missing! He climbed to his hooves, looking around hurriedly, but to no avail, with a sigh of consternation, he turned; then suddenly spotted the small fox standing across from him in the little clearing, staring at him and clutching what looked like his notes! As soon as Walter took notice of it, it feel to it's forepaws, looking ready to flee at the slightest movement.

Now making his carefree way through the woods Stepper keeps one eye on the sky and the other on the road, and while he can't really see anything different about the forest, he hopes that he can follow the flyer up above to Clompton and find out just what's going on around here.

Then again he thinks that maybe he just didn't pay enough attention the first time through and got turned around. Yeah that must be it, it's a better explanation than a haunted forest anyway.......right?
