Post Jagged Alliance-esque Modern Mercenary Game?
I've been toying with the idea of running a Jagged Alliance style PbP for awhile now. The party would be a mercenary company, with one PC taking on a leadership role and delegating tasks to his underlings.

One interesting twist that I've come up with is letting the players choose equipment from actual websites and pay the real-world market cost for anything they want to purchase.

As for systems, I'm considering World of Darkness (sans supernatural stuff) or Savage Worlds. In either case, I definitely want to incorporate a Burning Wheel-esque character creation process rather than simple point allocation or anything like that.

I can't start the game until after FtC4, but there's no reason we couldn't go ahead and brainstorm.

I am SO in for this, particularly if the clients are of the more upstanding variety. (Enrico Chivaldori.)

Ideally you would be choosing your own clients.

Even better. Would we get access to Recon Intelligence Services (from JA2) or something similar, or would researching the client be a mission unto itself?

I'm picturing a less impressive company to start with. The group will have just been founded, and there are only maybe a couple of people on the payroll that aren't actually mercs that go on missions. I don't know - all the organizational details of the company will be up to the players to define.

Something like Cold Zero: The last stand where there's just the mercs (who also run the business) and an administrative assistant/secretary/accountant might be fun/funny.

I'm up for that. I definitely want one or more of the players to be the owner(s). Any NPCs in the organization will be hired by the players in charge - and even other PCs will have to agree to pay-rates and benefits set by the owner.

Army of Two might be a good model; a boss, an administrative assistant; and then a number of operatives that are hired for the job.

The other thing that might be fun(ny) is to go the route of a couple of "rock star" mercs that are former black ops/tier 1 guys and paid accordingly ludicrous salaries that have a HUGE staff and lavish, opulent offices. That would work better with just 2 or 3 players, though. If we get up to 4 or more, well, then it would be The Expendables, not Jagged Alliance.

I suppose there's a good question in there: what sort of "feel" are you going for, goatunit? Do you want something grim, bleak, and brutal, something cinematic and action-y, or something funny and silly? Or some combination of these. JA2 is pretty lighthearted until you start uncovering what Diedranna had gotten up to. In fact, that may be one of the things that makes it so good. You start out with this group of lovable characters and have a couple of easy battles, and then you stumble across something like the university in Cambria...
