Iygus returns the items to the locker. In the case of the magic bone thing, he asks Emerald to return it.

After ushering the dog back inside and closing the door, Iygus heads out onto the dock to await the ship's mooring.

As the boat approaches Sterling stands up and waits for them to dock. He stands between the shore and the house, in plain view, no weapons drawn but still probably looking rather intimidating. He watches the boat, his gaze never wandering from it and those aboard, his expression impassive.

If Emerald is nervous he suggests she might stand behind him, where it is sheltered.

Being out in the open leaves Emerald feeling less nervous.

The boat pulls into the docks and you see several people exit the craft. There's a lot of commotion on the docks; it appears this is 'rush hour' when all the fishermen unload their catches of the day. From the looks of things, the boat is captained by a man in his late 50s, with four sons who are men in their own right, ranging from early 30s to mid 20s. They busily unload the ship, which is moored only about 20 yards distant.

They load their catch of the day, which seems rather heavy, into a hand cart that they brought off the boat. The four younger men grab handles and haul the two-wheeled cart toward the house, with the old man leading the way. As they approach the house, you get a good look at the old man: he has a mostly grey beard, wears a large brimmed hat with ear flaps, and wears well-oiled clothes. He carries a sabre that is well-worn, and wears thick leather boots, but appears to have no armor. The younger men are similarly outfitted with clothing, but only one carries a weapon: a long bow. The old man notices all of you and calls out. "Ahoy! Who're ye and what're ye doin' at my home?"

Sterling addresses the older man.

"Master of the boat, you and your sons have committed a grave sin against the druids. You know that the waters around Swan Isle are protected, yet you have trespassed therein. You know that the swans of the isle are sacred to the druids, yet you have slain one with your arrows."

"You have offended the druids and you must pay for your crime. You may choose which one of your sons is to die."

He waits for the man's reaction, one hand resting upon an axe, ready to defend himself if the need arises.

"What the hell're you talking about?" The man looks thoroughly confused.

Iygus snatches up his glaive-guisarme and joins Sterling.

"He said you're a rake and a rascal, Gladhand! A thief and a poacher, and we're here to collect toward your balance."

From his speech, it's pretty clear that Iygus sneaked a few swigs from his flask during the down time.

"Which of you shot the swan?" Emerald asks coldly, "which of you stole this man's boat?"

"What are we doing in your home you ask? You brought us here by stomping into our lives."

Gladhand turns to one of his sons. "Lon! Get over here!" The man with the bow steps up, almost cowering before the wrath of his father. The old man then proceeds to cuff him violently. "I leave you young 'uns for one day and you go 'un start killin' swans!" He begins to hit Lon full on the face, much to his whining protests of "But pa!", then, all of a sudden, the father and the other boys make a break for it and flee for the ship at top speed, leaving the beaten boy there on the docks.

Quite a crowd has gathered to watch at this point, and you see fishermen standing, large baskets of fish in hand, observing the chaos, dumbfounded.

Sterling walks up to Lon, still lying where his father left him. He looks down at the man, trying to read his emotional state, and checks the fletching of his arrows to see if they too match the one that killed the swan.

"It would appear that your father has chosen you to pay for the crime. Do you have anything to say in your defence before I carry out the sentence?"

"Address your words to the holy one," he says, with a gesture towards Emerald, "and be respectful."

(Sterling does not mean to go through with the execution. He is just doing this for effect, to see if the man will be contrite or attempt to dissemble or resist in some way. It'll do no harm if the rest of the community believes the druids have an enforcement section either.)
