I am planning to visit Scotland and England for my honeymoon next year and I was wondering about FLGS's in the area. So I started some research and found this site
http://www.the-master-list.com/ which gives contact information and a few out of date reviews and some stores aren't on the list.
I thought I'd ask my fellow booters what are some good stores are in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and London but then I 'd thought about booter's who might be visiting my city in the future and thought they would like to know which stores to visit so here are my reviews based on the entries on the master list website for the Edmonton and area in Alberta, Canada:
Edmonton:
All Star Sports Cards & Collectables - N/A
Gamers Lair - Not in my home neighborhood but was a decent place to go for service and gaming tables. I haven't been there in a few years though
Selection: Best I know for Warmachine, Good for other collectables, small selection of board games and RPGs
Atmosphere: Friendly
Service: Decent
Happy Harbor(Both) - The one on Jasper ave will be moving soon due to condo construction. Supports local artists by selling their comics. When I was part of the Edmonton gamers association they would meet at the Jasper ave location. Open, well organized
Selection: Large comic selection and collectables, small selection of anything else, a few tables for gaming or drawing
Atmosphere: Friendly
Service: Decent
Comex Hobby(Both) - Hands down the best place to get the latest board games and card games in Edmonton proper. Also the best place for paint, glue, other miniatures accessories
Selection: Average selection of the current board games and card games, Average collectable selection, Large amount of RC toys, Average Manga, Small RPG(Mostly Warhammer/40K titles) and book selection
Atmosphere: RC hobby storish
Service: Excellent - They
offer to order stuff in that's not in there usual orders if they don't have something you ask about without you prompting most times
Prices Decent
Comic Fever - N/A
Comic King North - Comics and that's it, go to the one in West Ed instead
Selection: All Comics
Atmosphere: I'm all alone/Why are you still here
Service: Snobbish
Comic King South - N/A
Comic King West - Again only Comics but the service is better probably due to the fact that it's located in the biggest mall in north america
Selection: All Comics
Atmosphere: Friendly
Service: Decent
Quantum Comics & Collectibles - N/A
Warp 1 Comics & Games - Tends to move around a bit when their lease ends but it's okay depending on what you need. A few tables to play on that are usually busy
Selection: Large selection of everything you'd expect in an FLGS, Minis, RPGs, Manga, comics, collectables, board games, plus a small selection of gamer books and art books. I should also mention that There is a lot of D&D, white wolf, and Pathfinder games here but somebody working there is up on their indie titles, Fiasco, Burning wheel, Supernatural, the one roll engine games, etc. Usual if i can't find it at Mission Fun and games or Comex hobby I come here.
Atmosphere: I tend to get in and get out mostly because the previous location would harass you to buy something but I haven't noticed as many "Can I help you"'s in the new spot
Service: adequate
Prices: 5-10% higher than everybody else
Warp 2 Comics & Games - See Warp 1 only staff are a little more friendly and helpful, the tables are less busier and you lose that Indie RPG selection I mentioned
Warp 3 Comics & Games - N/A
Whyte Knight Comics, Games, and Toys - Used gaming supplies. Best place to go for Out of print. Unfortunately due to lack of business has gone to an "By appointment only" model, which sucks because their right down the street from warp 1
Selection: Large selection of comics, games, antiques, weapons and collectables
Atmosphere: Antique store
Service: Excellent
Prices: 5-10% lower than anywhere else and will negotiate
Wizards Comics & Collectibles Inc - N/A
Not on the master listAdventurer's guild - Nice place to hang out an play some games but I rarely buy anything
Selection: Decent selection of Board games and card games. Small selection of the big RPG titles
Atmosphere: Beware the gamers
Service: Nice
St. Albert:
Mission: Fun & Games - Go Here, Seriously. If your in the Edmonton area go here.
Selection: Largest selection of Board games and card games in Edmonton, A whole store sized room of tables for gaming(not sure on prices though if any), Has it own ordering website
http://www.boardgames.ca/, Not as good as Warp 1 on the indie RPG scene but has equal stock in size and even has some out print books and games
Atmosphere: Holy crap that's a lot of games
Service: Excellent
Prices: Good
Thunderground Comics - Only been here once but was impressed, the centre was devoted to tables for general use, was the only store that I know of in the area to participate in the 2011 Free RPG day.
Selection: Large comic selection, The top shelf of a wall devoted to board games, half a wall devoted to minis
Atmosphere: Friendly
Service: Very Friendly, I was just browsing and the guy running the counter was tried to get a feel for what I was interested in and talked about the latest games
Sherwood ParkLeducCommunities I haven't been to for game shopping but I list so a tourist would know they are pretty close Edmonton so they have options
