Minatures Hobbyists: Where do you buy stuff?
Hey all! I've finally gotten back into the painting and goofing with miniatures game, and I found that I don't have my bookmarks of retailers and what not that I used to have. So where do you buy stuff? And yes, I have a couple of good FLGSs, and yes, I buy stuff from them here and there. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, hit me with your favorite online stores!

Fenryll do a line of resin that are all very good sculpts with a few exceptions. But they don't have a website of their own as far as I'm aware so you have to order through retailers. Arcane are alright, the aesthetics of most of their stuff is off I think. It's fine for crazy crazy-high fantasy, and they do some nice Sci-Fi stuff, but I tend to look to Fenryll for single miniatures for fantasy. http://www.arcaneminiatures.co.uk/Forgeworld, the, bottom, line, in sculpting quality, limited range designed to support The warhammer and warhammer 40k IPs but you will not find better looking models anywhere. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/But for the most part, I use GW mini's and Ironwind. GW has for several years snapped up all the emerging tallent and it shows, their sculpts are better, their casting is more consistent and their scaling is unified (28mm 'Heroic'). With shipping costs doing backflips recently I keep coming back to GW for fantasy stuff, especialy large groups of NPC models or similar. Ironwind not so much, they are as far as I know, the only guys who sculpt battletech mini's and they have got some nice resculpts done of their early work, but... they badly need to resculpt alot more, and give me some more dynamicly posed units! https://ironwindmetals.com/store/index.php

Being 40K only keeps Forgeworld out of the equation. Thanks for the reminder on The War Store. That one should be enough to get by until I can rebuild the archives. Thanks all.

I don't own any models from any of these companies, but I think Rackham has the best looking sculpts from the any of the current lines that I've seen. Wyrd's doing some pretty cool stuff, too. Cipher's lines of Hell Dorado and Anima Tactics are just beautiful. I'm not saying that GW's sculpts are bad, I'm certainly nobody that could approach their level of skill. I just think that other companies are doing it better these days.

I don't disagree that other companies are competant, but speaking with some limited first hand experience, what the GW and Forgeworld teams are doing is consistently more technicaly impressive work. 28mm Battle titan, APC and Commisar. The consistent level of detail and consistently scaled details are extremely tricky, especialy when dealing with miniatures that do not share common components.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.
