 Re: MTG: New Phyrexia
I started Magic during Ravnica block, and played for a good year or so (so, not that long ago). Nothing on this card, not even the type (Planeswalker?! So we're in the game now?), makes sense to me. (btw, that doesn't mean it's bad. This isn't a grognard post, just a WTF Magic changes fast. It's hard to believe there's still design space left in that game, but apparently so.)

 Re: MTG: New Phyrexia
planeswalkers are a new type that came out in lorwyn.
they come into play with loyalty counters equal to the number on the bottom right. once per turn you can use one of their abilities by adding or subtracting that many loyalty counters (at sorcery speed). If the number of counters goes to zero they are put in the graveyard.
creatures can attack planeswalkers like they were attacking a player. defending player can block with creatures. every point of damage that gets through to a walker removes that many loyalty counters.
planeswalkers also have the legend rule so that if you play the same named walker they both die. (including diff variations of the same walker like jace beleren and jace the mindsculpter)
i think that about covers it
there's 5 main planeswalkers in the core set, and each expansion generally gets 1-3 new walkers at mythic rarity. (1 in every 8 rares is now a mythic rare which is that redish color symbol)

Oh man, that Karn would be PERFECT in my all-white deck. It already has a Once More With Feeling, and having this guy in there with it would be unrestrained awesome.

My favorite card out of the new set is Jin-Gitaxiias, mix him with psychosis crawler and life totals drop fast. now to figure out how to get him out faster. At 8 colorless 2 blue he's hefty.

 Re: MTG: New Phyrexia
I haven't played Magic since 1998. The one thing I dislike about it as a game concept is that it's more about how many cards you can collect and spend money on, than it is about how good you are as a player.
Granted there are exceptions (apparently Brandon Sanderson is a hell of a Magic player), but for most people I knew it was about spending the most money on the killer deck.

 Re: MTG: New Phyrexia
If you play in tourneys, sure...casual insane multiplayer madness is more about deck concept and skill at the game. Also luck.
