Three Card Coyote is my current entry for the 2012 Game Chef contest. It's a little bit of a board game, scavenger hunt, and story telling RPG that uses three card stud as the action resolution system and poker chips to perform magic. Oh yeah, the dealer is Coyote the Trickster god and all the other players are power hungry gods inhabiting human bodies on Halloween night in 1864 Helena Montana. Got those game designer butterflies. I hope they like it. -- TAZ Ah, Last Chance Gulch. (not far from my old stomping grounds) Sounds interesting, and fun!

Yes indeed! Last Chance as a theme and Last Chance Gulch seem like a natural fit.
Had a blast playing, and the players were kind enough to stay afterwards and help brainstorm about the high and low points in the design. Valuable stuff. -- TAZ

The rules are unquestionably a pain to read through and interpret the first time around. I had a buddy play it through two or three times with me before I introduced it to a big group to make sure I had it down. Once you've got a basic understanding, gameplay is remarkably straightforward. You have a marker, you place a marker. Know ahead of time that you can add more markers later at the cost of more food. Gather food before we flip over the harvest card. Build what you want for your farm in the mean time to score points. No one should plan on winning on their first play through, but a first play through is about all you need to get a grasp of the strategic possibilities for the game. I love it, but it is, like most boardgames, a personal preference thing.

I've only played Agricola once and I didn't "get" every aspect of it. I lost but I was intrigued enough to want to play again.

I just played in an Ascension tourney. Got my ass handed to me, but it was a fun game.

Been playing Miskatonic School for Girls the last couple of days. Fun deck-building game, like Dominion, except you're putting cards into your opponents' decks as well. And there's Lovecraftian Horrors(TM). -- Ben
