Quarriors looks amazing, I've had my eye on it for a while. I spend way too much on board games as it is though, so I haven't picked it up yet.

So my bud is back in town (bad news is it's due to his mom's serious illness). But the good part is he's my best board gaming buddy and we have gotten to play a bunch of new & old stuff. So far:
Ticket to Ride Robo Rally Last Night on Earth Back to the Future card game Guillotine Loot
On tap:
Settlers of Catan Munchkin a bunch of new ones he brought!

We both loved the fact that its literally a new game every time because the rules change each time the monster and spell cards are laid out. Once we've gotten our fill of the original game, the expansions are a done deal. A few cool things, last night we dragged Justin's GF into a game and she won first time ever! On the final game of the night, Justin was down by ten in last place and was destined to lose when he got a perfect roll and managed to ready and score 12 glory and win the game from third (last) place. I'm sure some folks would hate that kind of randomness, but for a light party game with lots of strategy and chaos it means that it ain't over until its over. -- TAZ I played it once and it was rather confusing. I might like it better once I've had a couple run throughs with it.

Re: What boardgames are you playing?
There's a step in the set up where you read the cards before play, that's pretty essential to getting a good strategy in mind when playing. Also, some cards look very much alike so being thorough is sound advice. There is one rules glitch that tripped us up at the beginning. You have to pay the creatures level in quiddity (mana) to make it ready. That rule appears AFTER winning the game does in the rulebook. That should be placed much further up in the sequence of events. One little tradition that we have since you have scoring and culling first is that instead of saying "your turn" we say "cull". Scoring is easy to remember because you have your dice out there as a reminder. Culling is always easy to forget in the desire to grab some dice. -- TAZ

Re: What boardgames are you playing?
Will be playing my brand new copy of Black Friday tonight. Sadly it'll only be 2-player, but I'm still looking forward if the apparent "dryness" can be overcome with my wife.
Wow...that can be read wrong.
Now I wonder if I can learn how to program the Vassal engine to see if I could play this by email (which I think would be very easy).

Played both of the new Android games this weekend(Infiltration and Netrunner). Both are a blast to play. Wish netrunner had some rules for 3+ players but oh well.

Found an ASL group about 15 minutes from the house. They have a condo that is empty except for some tables, lights, and pretty much every ASL product ever produced. They also do play testing for the new stuff.

Re: What boardgames are you playing?
Played my first run of Android: Netrunner last night. LOVED IT! It reminded me of everything I loved about the CCG from the 90s. I played the Runner, and there were times when I was really feeling apprehension when I looked at some facedown ICE and the stack of credits that the corp had.
In the end, I ended up winning, although there were a few rules we missed that definitely landed in my favor, so another play will solve that.
This is probably sitting in my top 5 games category...now to just find opponents nearby.

Re: What boardgames are you playing?
Played Dixit last night for the first time with three people who have never played before.
An interesting little social experiment. Given the closeness of all the players (it was my wife and the other two members of the Mechanicals...so we hang out A LOT), there wasn't a time where we all voted for different cards. Easy to get into the head of the storyteller, yet we were all quite skilled at picking cards that could ALSO come out of that storyteller's head.
By the time the game was over we realized that we weren't really paying too much attention to the score, and no one really cared who was winning. I'm sure we'll be more cutthroat in further plays, but I saw that as a good sign.

Will be playing Flashpoint:Fire Rescue for the first time tonight. Was a big deal amongst the collaborative set back when it was a kickstarter, and my group loves collab games (though I'm pretty ambivalent about them), so it's going to hit our table with a lot of checks in the plus column already. Here's hoping it lasts. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/100901/flash-point-fire-rescue
