What is this "E6" you speak of?
Inspired this post Knaight wrote: The best thing that ever happened to 3.X was E6 - you have 6 levels, and you're done. From there, every 5000 experience is another feat. from the thread "Clarification" http://www.feartheboot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=16514&start=10What exactly is E6? Can someone explain it? Is it more complicated than that? What good and bad experiences do people have with it?

E6 is a rules variant of 3.5e D&D. I have no firsthand experience with it, but my opinion is that it's probably easier just to play an RPG that isn't broken to begin with.

ENWorld has a nice public post explaining it in pretty good detail and linking to the rules PDFs: E6: The Game Inside D&DTL;DR version: Stop leveling characters at level 6. Each level, they get a feat instead. This keeps PCs at the "powerful heroes but not invincible" stage, right before 3.x D&D becomes all about spellcasters and increasingly-absurd monsters.

It also works very well at increasing versatility without a corresponding increase in raw power, allows greater use of more mundane threats, and generally lives up to the promises made by the designers. It's reasonably high quality, though I personally favor avoiding D&D entirely. There is also another piece of homebrew that is quite good and goes with it.

Thanks for starting a new thread, wasn't sure if it would generate enough feedback. Also for the links, I appreciate it.
Now looking at it, it looks like it would be a great fit for me and my group. I like that it's inherently built to only reach a certain level range, which turns out to be about the same point where I also have found the dynamic of 3.5 play starts to shift. It just so turns out that my player-base also has similar tendencies and finds most of the higher-level play uninteresting at best.
In any case, that's pretty cool.

Yes. I have just now told my group that this is on my list of games I want to play in the future.

I am also intrigued by the blue mage as designed. I am going to pass this along to the rest of my group and see if I couldn't get some firsthand experience with this variant.

Re: What is this "E6" you speak of?
Sadly, it isn't quite done - as is though, you should be able to use it with standard monsters and such. That does lack the style of the monster system as it is being established (monster archetypes attached to classes), but the rest of the system makes up for it, even in the unfinished state.

This actually looks really cool for running a more "Fafrhd and the Grey Mouser" type game. I am inclined to give this a try, if I can get my players to buy in.
