Post Mage the Ascension Campaign Journal [Rube Goldberg Attack]
So I was talking to my story teller about some and he told me that I am not using my power to its full potential and I can go bigger, I asked what he meant and he responded, "Right now you are using basic things: Bless and Curse to increase or decrease the difficulty of actions, while effective you can do more. Think Rube Goldberg Attacks..."

For those that do not know, Rube Goldberg Machines are machines that devices that go through a complex series of interactions and have a simple result.

Right now my only thought is to ask questions about the scenery during battle and find ways to have it attack my foes. I imagine the story teller will let me set something up for massive damage if it took multiple rounds to prepare and it would also give me the in-game time to think of all the interactions needed to start it.

The Main ingredients for a Rube Goldberg Attack:

The Kick: This is what turns on the machine, it could be an attack that missed its target but hit a paint can that knocks over a bowling ball onto another foe...

The Attack: This is what deals the damage to the target, preferably something either heavy, corrosive or explosive.

The Domino: How do you get "The Attack", an inanimate object that is stationary, to hit your target with deadly aim? With "The Domino", other inanimate objects that are hit by "The Kick" and do not hit your target, but rather other dominos. Eventually you want a domino to launch "The Attack", two dominos seems to be fine for showing off your entropic powers and not getting stale with description.

These are just my thoughts on how to set up a Rube Goldberg attack right now, I cannot wait to try it out...

Be sure to include Rube in your search terms. Here are a few famous examples.

Guinness commercial that is a very basic version of a Rube Goldberg device. Almost everything is a domino effect but it illustrates nicely the idea behind the device.

A much more complicated Honda commercial. It's a Rube Goldberg device using only parts from the Accord.

Many science museums will also have Rube Goldberg devices that transport a simple metal ball bearing from Point A to Point B. Often these devices have a theme - like a weekend in the Alps or some such. They reset themselves and can be run every few minutes.

A few child's games are based around the concept of a Rube Goldberg device. Mouse Trap is one. I had another as a child that was essentially a complex dominos set.

It's not CG. They did some minor editing but everything moving on the screen is actual parts moving and colliding.

if it's not that's awesome but the bit with the tires rolling uphill, and it looked like there was a plank through the door window when it rolled down. may be just my stupid eyes/brain though.

It was hugely popular at IIT when it came out. Campus being full of engineers and what not. You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cog_(advertisement)
