Thank god this isn't another morality or mortality focused episode. My wanking hands (which, despite public opinion, are not all I possess) are getting tired from posting nihilistic arguments ;)

When I get home, I will finish listening.

"Six."

Jeff, Titan: the Arena is one of the great end-of-gaming-session games. 45 minutes that keeps everyone involved and trying to game each other.

Most board games I don't play the expansions, preferring the original--Carcassonne is great example of this. There are games, however, that are improved by expansions. A few carefully selected expansions improve Runebound, because they keep the decks from cycling during a game (and the traps expansion adds some great challenge cards). And I've heard one of the expansions for Thunderstone is worth getting just for the box.

Overall, guys, bad episode. I agreed with Chad. Twice. :problem:

I love both board games and RPGs. I love board games for crunch and system and structure, but I don't want that in my RPG. Chad and I part ways there, as he's focused on story while I'm focused on character, but it was a disturbing moment.

And depending on the game, I play not to lose (although this is much more common in card games than board games).

Actually, I like board games that are all over the map, be they crunchy or minimal. I enjoy games that allow me to sprinkle in a little roleplaying, but some of my favorites have none of that.

There are several board games that are easy sells to those who enjoy dungeon crawls. Descent was mentioned. My wife and I play Runebound a lot. And for a dexterity game that's a dungeon crawl, Catacombs.

EDIT: Alright I just checked and Settlers of Catan and Carcassonne did exist ten years ago.

Good thing, too. You were about to be ridiculed. ;)

Eh, while I very much agree with the sentiment in general, I consider the FIRST expansion to Carcassonne (Inns & Cathedrals) to be very benificial, though the later ones are shit. Granted, I think if you buy the game now it comes packed with I&C included which makes its expansion-status dubious.

It also comes packed with The River expansion, which I didn't know was an expansion until I played the game on XBLA

I don't really count The River as an expansion, as they immediately added it to the main game and gave it away to those who had already purchased. I don't use it anymore, though, and I know others who use it, but don't allow the placement of meeples during that phase due to the unfair advantage of the cloister.

Inns & Cathedrals is fine with a full game, but I don't like it for 2-3 players, which is my usual game. I do miss some of the odd pieces though.

I've always enjoyed board games and find it funny that when I introduce a new boardgame to my family at get togethers they all groan but in the end are mad there is not enough time for another round before bed.
