Re: Episode 270 – mixing your mythoi
I'm listening to the cast right now. I don't feel that torture should *ever* be done 'on-screen', it should all be done off-screen.
But about torture, the data gained, is often useless. The best way to get the information you want, is to *talk* to the person and treat them like a human being. I base this on decades of information from the actual intelligence community. Because torture ends in two common results. 1) You don't break them. At this point they tell you nothing or worse, they tell you misinformation is which is worse than nothing. 2) They tell you whatever you want to hear. They make it up. Given enough time you can get anyone to confess to the Lincoln assassination.
Completely on-topic side note. John McCain was tortured. His captors wanted to know the command structure that he served under. He lasted as long as he could. He finally talked. Do you know what he told them? He gave them the list of the people on his High School football team. Perfectly true information. Honest to a fault. And useless.
Torture does not work. But it isn't designed to work. It isn't designed to gather information. It is designed to establish dominance. To lord over a fallen foe. To show them 'who is boss'. It is done for fun. It is done to intimidate those that have not be captured. To enforce compliance in an enemy population. To break the will of a people. And it has no place in a role-playing *game*.
I can't continue listening to folks justify this stuff. I'm not sure I can continue to listen to the cast at all. No, now that I think about it, I'm sure I can't. I've enjoyed your cast and board in the past. I wish you all the best of luck. Good-bye.

If that's the case, I probably would have frightened off most listeners ages ago. Remember that the podcast offers one or more approaches to an issue. This is never the be-all-end-all of what you should do. Disagreement with our opinions on the mics is not only welcome, it's encouraged.

He's gone, like so many others. Never to been heard from again. He burned so brightly and now, sadly, is not but ash. Never to light our way in the darkness again. We are alone now with only but a memory... and our mistakes to keep us.

Kinda makes me want to torture you until I learn your secrets.

Re: Episode 270 – mixing your mythoi
I never imagined that the topic of interrogation would be so controvercial. Even the torture aspect of the topic seems to have struck a chord that runs deeper than I ever imagined.

Then it shall stand as silent tribute and reminder to those still here, who may ever doubt our intentions in the future. And if one day, should he come back, he shall see it as a welcoming sign that we are happy to see him returned.
