 Re: Episode 269
Dan wrote: That's pretty much how I went as well. I'm a water evoker that can take on the form of a dragon. And then I have a list of powers that are tied either to the Mississippi River or require me being in my dragon form. While the character is powerful, she's far from "plot powerful". I have some concerns about how she fits into the group, but it's more about mixing mythologies than her archetype. Expect to hear more on this in episode 270. I don't know how anyone else felt, but to me, Taoist cosmology + Jim Butcher was mixing like oil and water. I have a lot more to say on the subject, but I need to save it for the mics. Oh so all you need is eggs?

You just need a caustic personality thrown into the mix. That turns the water into vinegar and you get a nice salad dressing. I suspect that caustic personality is the Jade Court which hasn't been developed yet.

The Dresdenverse itself is a patchwork of myths and legends, but it's a patchwork that works in certain ways and is a self-contained setting/mythos. Can you/should you add a character concept from a mythos outside that patchwork. Beyond that, is the sheer force of Dan will and personality at the game table making this a dragon-china-empire game with a Dresden flavor instead of the other way around?

 Re: Episode 269
That's what's starting to worry me. Two games ago was fine. But last game felt more like you guys joining me in Journey to the West than a dragon from the Jade Court hanging out in Dresdenverse.
I know this is rare for a player to say, but I was having too much influence on the game world.

 Re: Episode 269
Why do you feel that your dragon is oriental? The Chinese dragons are just their interpretation of a pre-existing phenomenon, i.e. the dragons. Yes, the dragons from China have a significant advantage in power since they are revered, but that doesn't mean that the Mississippi dragon has anything to do with China. Affiliation with the Jade Court would be akin to your cousin sending his interns over with a letter. Or, it could be darker, like your cousin owes the mob some money and now they are knocking on your door.
Look towards Norse sea monsters, lake monster cryptids like Nessie and Native American/Meso-american mythology for inspiration.

I'm not familiar with Taoism in the slightest, but I don't see why it would be a problem. There's room in the Nevernever for pretty much any and every supernatural creature or group, and their desmene generally functions however the heck they want it to. Plus, power stems from belief, whether that's religious faith or the belief of a caster for how his magic "works." There's really room for everyone at the Dresden table. That said, if you want to bring this to the mics, I can't think of a more fun banter topic.
